Wizards roll by Pacers

Gilbert Arenas scored 40 points in 32 minutes last night in Washington to lead the Wizards to a 117-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers, who played without injured All-Star Jermaine O'Neal.

Arenas was 14 of 20 from the field and 8 of 9 on free throws for the 21st 40-point game of his NBA career -- and second in a row at home. He was taken out shortly after making a 3-pointer to put the Wizards ahead, 105-72, about a minute into the fourth quarter.

Arenas is averaging 42 points this season in Washington, where the Wizards are 2-0. On the road, though, Arenas is averaging 15.5 points and his team is 0-2.

The Pacers fell to 3-2, with their leading scorer, O'Neal, sidelined by the left ankle he hurt Tuesday against Philadelphia.

Al Harrington scored 23 points for the Pacers. David Harrison started for O'Neal and played 18 minutes, with 3 points and five rebounds.

Trail Blazers 101, Lakers 90 -- Zach Randolph had 36 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Portland over Los Angeles.

Randolph, who has averaged 28 points and 10.5 rebounds over Portland's first five games, had a two-handed dunk to put the Blazers ahead, 78-69, early in the fourth quarter.

Kobe Bryant scored 32 points for the Lakers (4-2), and made it close with a layup and a free throw that narrowed it to 93-86 with 1:41 left. But Stephen Graham answered with a 3-pointer for the Blazers to seal it.

Nets 96, Jazz 89 -- Vince Carter scored 30 points and almost singlehandedly held off Utah's fourth-quarter run, leading New Jersey to victory in East Rutherford, N.J.

Utah's first loss in five games left New Orleans (4-0) as the NBA's only remaining undefeated team a little more than a week into the season.

Richard Jefferson added 23 points, Jason Kidd had 15, and Antoine Wright scored a career-high 15, including a clutch 3-pointer with 3:41 left in the final quarter after Utah had drawn within 85-84.

Kings 99, Pistons 86 -- Kevin Martin equaled his career high with 30 points and Corliss Williamson scored 13 of his 15 in the second half against his former team, leading host Sacramento over Detroit.

Mike Bibby had 23 points and seven rebounds for the Kings, who won for the third time in four games and snapped a three-game losing streak to Detroit.

Raptors 106, 76ers 104 -- Chris Bosh made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left and finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds, leading host Toronto over Philadelphia.

Allen Iverson had 35 points and 10 assists for the Sixers, who have dropped two straight after winning their first three games of the season. Philadelphia lost to Indiana Tuesday.

Knicks 109, Nuggets 107 -- Jamal Crawford stole the ball from Eduardo Najera and sank a 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left to give New York a victory in Denver.

Crawford, subbing for Steve Francis (ankle), scored 20 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter, when the Knicks erased a 12-point deficit.

Spurs 111, Suns 106 -- Tony Parker scored 29 points and Fabricio Oberto added 22 on 11-of-11 shooting to lead host San Antonio to an overtime victory over struggling Phoenix (1-4).

The Spurs (4-1) scored 10 of the first 12 points in overtime. Tim Duncan added 26 points and 14 rebounds. Oberto also added 10 rebounds.

Rockets 97, Bucks 93 -- Tracy McGrady scored 32 points and teamed with Yao Ming to lead a big third-quarter spurt as visiting Houston beat Milwaukee.

Yao added 23 for the Rockets before he and McGrady went cold down the stretch as the Bucks tried to make a comeback.

Magic 88, Sonics 87 -- Hedo Turkoglu scored 18 points, including a fallaway 20-footer with 0.4 seconds left, to lift Orlando over visiting Seattle.

Jameer Nelson added 18 points and Grant Hill had 12 as the Magic won their second straight game.

Clippers 103, Mavericks 85 -- Cuttino Mobley scored 28 points and the Los Angeles Clippers beat visiting Dallas, keeping the defending Western Conference champions winless.
