UNCASVILLE, Conn.—The Connecticut Sun have waived former first-round draft pick Kamesha Hairston, saying there was just no longer room for the second-year player on the WNBA team.
Hairston was the 12th pick overall last year out of Temple, where she averaged over 19 points and eight rebounds as a senior.
But the 6-foot-1 guard averaged under two points and two rebounds in her first season in Connecticut. She underwent surgery for a torn right lateral meniscus during the preseason and had not played for the Sun in 2008.
Sun coach Mike Thibault said other players have solidified their places in the Sun rotation, and with Australian guard Erin Phillips set to rejoin the Sun after the Olympic break, it would have been tough for Hairston to get playing time.![]()
