Suns coach Terry Porter will be fired today and replaced by assistant Alvin Gentry, a person familiar with the decision told the Associated Press last night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement had not been made. The move was first reported on The Arizona Republic's website. Porter was four months into his first season on the three-year, $6 million contract. The decision to replace Porter came in a series of meetings between owner Robert Sarver and general manager Steve Kerr reviewing the entire basketball operation. The two also are considering trading All-Star center Amar'e Stoudemire . . . Davidson guard Stephen Curry's injured left ankle is not broken, and the nation's leading scorer will be listed as day-to-day. Curry met with doctors and underwent X-rays that were negative. Coach Bob McKillop said Curry will sit out today's practice, but no determination has been made for Wednesday's game against The Citadel. The Wildcats (22-4, 15-1) host No. 15 Butler Saturday. Curry was injured when he stepped on the foot of a Furman player on a drive to the basket in the second half of Saturday's game.TENNIS

Bills' Lynch arrested on gun charge
Bills running back Marshawn Lynch was arrested in Culver City, Calif., on a weapons charge. Police said Lynch was arrested Wednesday night after officers approached him and two other men sitting in a 2006 Mercedes-Benz in the Los Angeles suburb and found a loaded firearm. The 22-year-old Lynch was arrested after officers determined the gun belonged to him. He was released that night on $35,000 bail. Lynch's arrest marked the second time in less than a year he has been in trouble with the law. In June, Lynch pleaded guilty to a traffic violation and admitted speeding off in his SOCCER
Hamstring injury sidelines Beckham
David Beckham hurt his hamstring in AC Milan's 2-1 loss to Inter Milan, days after the Los Angeles Galaxy cut off talks of transferring him to the Italian side. Beckham, who is on loan to AC Milan through March 9, played 56 minutes before being replaced. He appeared fatigued, having played a half for England against Spain Wednesday. The English superstar had wanted to make a permanent move to AC Milan, to better prepare him for one last go-round with England in the 2010 World Cup. After the Galaxy rejected the Italian team's first offer, MLS commissioner Don Garber set a deadline to conclude talks. When Milan didn't counteroffer by Friday, the Galaxy announced the matter was closed . . . Raul Gonzalez broke Real Madrid's all-time scoring record, surpassing the mark of 307 goals held by Alfredo di Stefano. Raul, as Gonzalez is known, scored twice in Madrid's 4-0 win over Sporting Gijon in the Spanish league to take his tally to 309.MISCELLANY
Armstrong in hunt after a bumpy start
Lance Armstrong is among the leaders of the Tour of California after an opening day featuring drenching rain, a flat tire, a minor crash, and the theft of his time-trial bike. Armstrong persevered to finish near the front of a grueling 107-mile stage that finished in Santa Rosa. He led a chase group that never quite caught up to the race leaders, including stage winner Francisco Mancebo of Spain. Some time after Armstrong finished 10th in Saturday's prologue, his time-trial bike was stolen from the Team Astana trailer in Sacramento along with three teammates' bikes . . . American team USF1, which will be racing in Formula One next year, announced that IndyCar driver Danica Patrick is a candidate to drive one of its two cars . . . American Olympian Lolo Jones bounced back two days after falling in a meet to win the 60-meters hurdles in 7.82 seconds at the BW-Bank indoor meet in Karlsruhe, Germany. Jones, the world indoor champion, clipped a hurdle and fell Friday at a meet in Duesseldorf. But she raced to the indoor season's best time, beating Canada's Priscilla Lopes-Schliep by .14 seconds . . . Yelena Isinbayeva broke her own indoor world pole vault record, clearing 16 feet 4 3/4 inches at the Pole Vault Stars competition in Donetsk, Ukraine. The Russian's previous mark was 16-2 3/4 . . . Former Boston College goalie Cory Schneider made 23 saves to lead the Manitoba Moose to a 4-0 AHL victory over the host Providence Bruins.
