While LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal made their first public appearance together as Cleveland teammates yesterday, Delonte West stayed out of sight. The Cavaliers’ troubled guard, who is dealing with personal problems, as well as legal issues stemming from a recent arrest on weapons charges, was kept away from Cleveland’s intrasquad scrimmage at Akron, Ohio. West skipped the first four practices of training camp, absences the team said were unexcused. He returned Thursday and took part in workouts . . . University of Kansas junior guard Brady Morningstar was arrested around 3:25 a.m. yesterday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Sharapova prevails as Jankovic retires
Maria Sharapova won her first tournament since returning from a 10-month injury layoff when Jelena Jankovic retired because of an arm injury in the first set of the Toray Pan Pacific final in Tokyo. Sharapova was up, 5-2, when Jankovic, the seventh seed, took a timeout to have her arm examined by a trainer. Jankovic returned and lost the first two points of the eighth game before retiring . . . Viktor Troicki upset defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the Thailand Open final in Bangkok. The fourth-seeded Troicki will face Gilles Simon, who beat Jurgen Melzer, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) . . . Ana Ivanovic withdrew from the China Open because of an upper respiratory infection.Horse racing

Tom Watson took a four-stroke lead at the Senior Players Championship in Timonium, Md., shooting a bogey-free 6-under-par 64 at Baltimore Country Club. Watson was at 12-under 198, four shots better than Loren Roberts, John Cook and Mark Wiebe . . . Defending champion Lorena Ochoa shot a 6-under 66 (16-under 200) in Prattville, Ala., to take a three-stroke lead in the Navistar LPGA Classic, leaving 14-year-old Alexis Thompson eight strokes behind. . . . Scott Piercy had a 6-under 66 for a share of the lead with Matt Kuchar after the third round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, N.Y. Beckham, MLS consider 2d Milan loan
David Beckham is in talks with the Galaxy about going to AC Milan on another loan and then returning to Los Angeles. “That deal I think hasn’t been fully finalized yet, but I know he is interested in going to Milan and he’s in conversation with the LA Galaxy about doing a loan again and discussing coming back,’’ Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber said. . .
