For days, the room has been set up for a news conference.

There’s a green backdrop, microphones, chairs, and a table draped in green cloth with “@celtics,” the team’s Twitter handle, facing outward.

Doc Rivers would sit there, and Danny Ainge at his side. And they would shed light on Rivers’s likely departure from the Celtics to coach the Clippers.

But that didn’t happen Monday, because the deal that would send Rivers to Los Angeles still hasn’t been finalized.

A league source confirmed that Rivers and the Clippers are still working out the details in his new contract, which league sources have said would be for three years and $21 million.
