With Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce returning to TD Garden Sunday for the first time since they were traded to the Brooklyn Nets last summer, the Globe spoke with Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge about the blockbuster swap that sent two icons to a division rival while giving the Celtics valuable assets to help speed up their rebuilding process.
To recap the deal, the Celtics traded Garnett, Pierce, Jason Terry, and D.J. White to the Nets for Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans, and three first-round draft picks (2014, 2016, and 2018), as well as the right to swap first-round picks in 2017.
