Raef LaFrentz may be sidelined for season

The Celtics are considering terminating the season of Raef LaFrentz in order that he be able to return healthy for the 2004-05 season, Danny Ainge, the team's Executive Director of Basketball Operations said.
LaFrentz, the 6-11 swingman obtained from Dallas in the trade for Antoine Walker, has been struggling with acute tendinitis in his right knee. "He's in a lot of pain," Ainge explained. At present, LaFrentz has been limited to the 15-18 minutes-a-game range. "We would like to get him healthy for the next five years."
The Celtics knew that LaFrentz had a knee issue. The trade was almost rescinded for just that reason. "But our doctors concluded that, while there was a short-term problem, he would be all right in the long run," Ainge said.
The decision to sit LaFrentz for the rest of the season will be made by Ainge, the team's medical staff and the coaches.
