Celtics add Wohl to staff

Dave Wohl will arrive in Boston today as one of the Celtics' new assistant coaches. He will be joined by lead assistant Tony Brown. With head coach Doc Rivers out of town fulfilling his broadcasting commitment with ABC, Wohl and Brown will work out prospects for the upcoming draft. Wohl said his contract should be finalized today, and draft workouts could start tomorrow.

Asked what brought him to Boston, Wohl said, "A bunch of things, but Doc was the primary one. I enjoyed working for him in Orlando. He's a terrific coach. I've known him for 20 years and I have a terrific working relationship with him.

"No. 2, the tradition in Boston. It's probably the greatest tradition in professional basketball. And listening to Doc talk about his meetings with Danny [Ainge]. They really have a chance to form a great relationship on the basketball side. I think there's tremendous upside for the team going forward. That was attractive."

Most recently, Wohl served as assistant under Rivers in Orlando. Wohl said specific roles for the Celtics assistants will become clearer once Rivers assembles the rest of his staff. The remaining positions will be filled from a group that includes Memphis assistant Lionel Hollins, former Philadelphia head coach Randy Ayers, Celtics scout/assistant Paul Cormier, and former Rivers assistants Mark Hughes and Paul Pressey.

"Wherever Doc thinks he can use me the best, that's where I'll fit in," said Wohl.
