We used to hide under the covers with our transistor radio listening to Tommy Heinsohn and the Celtics play. The basketball legend now dunks a paintbrush into oils, and his landscape paintings and sketches are on view at “Tommy Heinsohn: Beyond Basketball.’’ The broadcaster/former player and coach painted as a kid in New Jersey which kept him out of trouble, according to the sports legend. Heinsohn and longtime sports journalist Leigh Montville will discuss art and sports on Sept. 27 (7 p.m. reception, 8 p.m. discussion; $25; reservations recommended at 617-923-8487). Today from noon-8 p.m. (through Oct. 16; reception Sept. 16 from 5:30-7 p.m.). Free. Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal St., Watertown. 617-923-0100, www.arsenalarts.org
