Celtics deal

Posted by Peter May, Globe Staff October 13, 2006 12:08 PM

The Celtics have added another perimeter shooter to their roster while at the same time seemingly resolved their crowded center situation.

Boston sent center Dwayne Jones, who had yet to play in the exhibition season, to the Cavaliers for southpaw shooting Luke Jackson, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2004 draft.

Jackson will be available for duty tonight in the team's exhibition game in Manchester, N.H., against the Cavs and will wear No. 11.

Jackson becomes the fifth member of the Celtics who was a first-round pick in 2004, joining Sebastian Telfair, Al Jefferson, Tony Allen and Delonte West.

A highly regarded player coming out of Oregon, he has struggled in the NBA, playing only 48 games in the last two seasons due mainly to injuries.

He played 10 minutes against the Celtics last Tuesday night in Cleveland, going 0-for-3 from the field and 1-of-2 from the line. Jones has been bothered by a back injury during the exhibition season.

He played in 14 games for the Celtics last season, coming to Boston in the deal with Minnesota, which featured Wally Szczerbiak and Ricky Davis.

Jones was at best ``on the bubble'' to make the Celtics, especially since Michael Olowokandi has played well so far in the exhibition season.
