Garbajosa update

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff March 26, 2007 10:28 PM

Raptors center Jorge Garbajosa sustained a left ankle injury with 4:31 remaining in the fourth quarter and was taken to New England Baptist Hospital for X-rays, according to the Celtics PR staff. Garbajosa will be examined by Celtics team doctor Brian McKeon and will stay overnight for observations.

Celtics captain Paul Pierce said he sympathized with Garbajosa.

"My heart goes out to the Raptors family," said Pierce. "I'm not sure if he broke something or not, but that looked pretty bad. It's tough, the NBA, injury is a part of all sports. I hate to see it happen to one of the NBA brothers."

Raptors guard T.J. Ford said Toronto will miss Garbajosa should he have to sit out for an extended period of time.

"He's a big part of our team," said Ford. "I hate that it happened because he brings so much to the table on the defensive end and the offensive end and his knowledge of the game. It's definitely going to hurt us."
