Back to school
ATLANTA -- The Celtics have a handful of young players who should still be in college, so it was somewhat fitting that the team practiced today at Morehouse College. All eight "healthy" players participated in the practice.
Paul Pierce, who is with the team on the trip, remained at the team hotel, doing conditioning work.
Healthy is a relative term for the Celtics these days. Ryan Gomes was seen with a large ice wrap on his right (shooting) wrist. Gomes took a hard fall while being called for a charge against the Indianapolis Pacers on Saturday. He said that his back was also bothering him, but that he was planning to give it a go tomorrow against the Atlanta Hawks. But the wrist could curtail his newfound 3-point shooting prowess.
"I probably won't shoot any tomorrow night, just to be on the safe side," joked Gomes.
Kendrick Perkins, who played on Saturday despite having the flu, said he felt much better after an off-day on Sunday. "I woke up at 4 p.m., ate and went right back to bed. I was in bed all day yesterday. I still got like a little stomach [bug], but other than that everything was pretty decent."
He pronounced himself good to go for tomorrow's game.
One player that won't be in uniform is Hawks forward Josh Smith.
