Pollard, House ready

Posted by Shira Springer, Globe Staff August 9, 2007 05:49 PM

Free agent acquisitions Scot Pollard and Eddie House passed their physicals, officially signed their contracts and met with the media Thursday afternoon at the Celtics’ downtown offices. Both veterans are excited about the prospect of playing on a team with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen and competing for an NBA title.

‘‘An opportunity to play with three great guys like that definitely opens your eyes,’’ said House. ‘‘You’re like, ‘That’s a good look right there. That’s probably the place to be.’ Danny [Ainge] has been talking with my agent for three years trying to see if we could work something out. It didn’t happen then, but it happened now. This is the best time for it to happen.’’

House made it known he is comfortable playing both guard positions, while Pollard figures he will be a solid backup in the frontcourt.

‘‘When we go bigger and Kendrick [Perkins] starts, which I think will be most nights, I’ll back him up,’’ said Pollard. ‘‘On the nights we go small and KG starts [at center], I’ll be the backup to the backup. Talking to [coach] Doc [Rivers], what I’m really excited about is the free-flowing offense. That is more like I played my whole career until I got to Indiana and it became an Eastern Conference kind of mentality.’’
