Coach of the month

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff December 3, 2007 05:40 PM

Doc Rivers today was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for November, according to a press release from the Celtics.

The Celtics were 13-2 in November, tying the franchise record for wins in that month. The 1985-86 Celtics went 13-1 in November. The Celtics allowed opponents a league-low 88.6 points per game, and opponents shot a league-worst 41 percent against the C's.

The last Celtic to be named Coach of the Month was Chris Ford, in April, 1992.

  1. Classic. Doc made 5 decisions last month and probably failed on 4 of them.

I still say fire him before it's too late.

  1. Doc has the guys playing good, hard basketball. The effort is 100% and the results are there. What else can you hope for? It's been a long time!

I say, fire Boston Lou before he wakes up.

  1. You are wrong - Doc is a coach who can win with winners. Some coaches can turn losers in to decent teams but can't win with thoroughbreds. Doc is the opposite, kind of like KC Jones.

  1. I hope Doc manages the trios minutes better (ie Allen wil have his legs under him at the end of a game if he hasn't been in the game for 40+ minutes.)

    otherwise,

It is a lot more fun to be a Celtic fan than the last several year, what can I say?

    Let's see more Big Baby!

  1. I'd love for an example of how Doc made a difference in this past month

The team is playing hard because KG won't let them do anything else. As well as PP and Ray are buying in. So it's contagious and everyone works hard and hustles.

I'd love to know how WMB knows that Doc can win with winners? Where is that proof? All KC Jones had to do was show up and call a couple of timeouts. This team is talented but not that much.

Have you noticed how when the clock is ticking down that the only play they have is everyone stand around and watch someone go 1 on 1? Why wouldn't you stay in the offense? Oh that's right, because Doc's the coach.

I'm all for the C's doing well. I just don't see them going all the way with Doc. I know 14-2 is hard to argue with. But that's my opinion.

  1. "where is the proof that doc can win with winners?"

    in the standings. they're 14-2. they're winning.

this is classic coach critique syndrome.
phil jackson inherits two teams with superstars and he's some sort of spritual basketball guru. a coach (like doc) takes over two teams that are basically boat loads of children and he's forever branded with 'he can't coach!'

and this hatred all goes back to everybody crying over the 2002 team (that was never going to win a title) that ainge blew up. it doesn't matter what ainge and doc do - these people will never be satisfied.

  1. I have to concur with Richard Faymonville in that 14-2 and Coach of the Month for November are fairly strong proof that Doc is at least a better than average coach when he has talent to coach. I don't comprehend all the hatred I read from those like Boston Lou who purport to be Celtic fans yet appear to be fascinated with criticism of Doc, Danny and other members of a highly regarded, model franchise. Rather than focusing on the negative, I would ask all the "know-it-all" "wannabe" coaches to attempt to accentuate to positive.

    GO CELTICS!!!!!!!!

CELTICS rule the WORLD. (At least the NBA world anyway!!!!!!!!!!)
