A helping hand

Posted by Greg Lee, Globe Staff February 15, 2008 07:16 PM

Two and half years ago Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city of New Orleans. It left hundreds of thousands of residents homeless.

During the All-Star Weekend, the NBA hosted a day of service to help rebuild neighborhoods in the city of New Orleans.

More than 2,500 people volunteered to participate in the project that was located in 10 locations on a rainy and cold day.

Included in the effort were Celtics players Ray Allen and Paul Pierce and coach Doc Rivers.

Pierce and Rivers were working in a New Orleans East neighborhood, where the Habitat for Humanities were constructing three homes on Wilson Avenue. The Lakers' Kobe Bryant, Suns center Amare Stoudemire, Hornets guard Chris Paul, Timberwolves guard Gerald Green and Bulls guard and Louisiana native Chris Duhon were also at the New Orleans East location.
