Posey a dad

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff March 26, 2008 10:34 PM

James Posey is the proud father of a baby girl, Sai Aleke Posey, born Monday in the Washington, D.C. area.

“Seven pounds, 12 ounces, 28 ¼ inches,” Posey said proudly. “I had to text it to so many people that I know it by heart now.”

Posey missed Monday's game against the Sixers to be with his girlfriend, but he returned to the Celtics tonight and had six points and six rebounds against the Suns.

“It was sudden for the most part,” said Posey. “We were expecting [her to have the baby]Thursday. You know it’s probably going to come early, and that’s what it was.”

Posey said he was getting ready to come to the Garden for the game against the Sixers Monday night when he girlfriend called around 4 p.m. and told him doctors were going to induce labor. Posey called Celtics coach Doc Rivers and explained the situation.

“He told me it was the best thing to go,” said Posey.
