I was pleased to learn that Kevin Garnett was given the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Kudos to him. I was also surprised to learn that the award was instituted in 1983 which meant that Bill Russell the greatest defensive player (some might argue the greatest player) in the history of the NBA, never had an opportunity to be given this award. I think that in recognition of his outstanding defensive play over his illustrious career, the Defensive Player of the Year Award should be named the William Felton Russell Defensive Player of the Year Award.
