KG's pregame routine

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff April 23, 2008 06:19 PM

Admittedly, this is my first year watching Kevin Garnett extensively, besides on the national broadcasts, which the Timberwolves did not frequent in recent years.

One of the most interesting things I’ve learned while covering Garnett this year is that his pregame routine remains identical each game. He doesn’t spend much time in the main area of the locker room (he walks through once) and he does not speak to reporters.

On the court, we’ve all seen him clap his hands together and throw up the chalk. But KG makes almost the exact same movements just before every tip-off.

He starts out under the basket, where he ties his shorts and then hits his head on the stanchion. Then he walks to the corner of the court near the Celtics bench and shrugs his shoulders. He high-fives everyone on the bench. He does his chalk routine. He gets man-hugs from Eddie House and James Posey. With everyone else already on the court, he walks out and gives fist pounds to every opponent. Then he walks to the Celtics end of the court, swings his arms, and pumps his chest while saying something R-rated. He points to three distinct sections of the crowd. Then it’s gametime.

Does anyone know if Garnett did this exact same routine in Minnesota?

  1. He sure did.

We gave up our Timberwolf season tickets of 10-12 years after learning that KG had been traded. He's a terrific player and appears to be a terrific person. Sure hope he gets a ring this year.

    Give him our best.

  1. Yes He did. We also gave up our Timberwolf tickets when they traded the whole team away. We have been watching the Celts all season, thank goodness for NBA TV and Comcast Sportsnet. We live in Southern Iowa so that is the only way we would be able to see them play.

Do you know if KG and Brandi did have their baby and if so if the baby is alright? Since noone had really confirmed it we are concerned that something may be wrong. Do you know anything?

    Thanks
