No Big Three

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff April 5, 2008 11:15 AM

CHARLOTTE -- Celtics Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen will get Saturday night's game against the Bobcats off to get rest. Boston's magic number, a combination of its wins and Detroit losses, is down to one to get home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that whether Garnett, Pierce, or Allen play in remaining regular-season games will be decided on a game-to-game basis. Rivers not only would like to get the All-Stars rest during the rest of the regular-season, he also would like to get his bench more minutes before the playoffs.

Pierce didn't make the trip to Charlotte because of the birth of his daughter, Prianna Lee, Friday in Boston. He is expected to meet the Celtics in Milwaukee Monday; the mother, fiancee Julie Landrum, could be coming home Sunday. A Celtics release said Pierce is "so amazed and psyched."

  1. May be a good move on the part of Doc, but he should have at least sealed the deal then give the Big 3 time off. The Celts still have unfinished business.

From another persepctive, it would be good for the BIG £ to get some much needed rest and avoid possible injuries, while at the same time getting some quality minutes for the guys on the bench.

May be DOC should give Perkins and Rajon Rondo some time off as well.
