Ainge named Executive of the Year

Celtics GM Danny Ainge has been named 2007-08 NBA Executive of the Year by the Sporting News.

The magazine polled general managers and executives from all 30 NBA teams. Ainge received 18 of the 47 votes cast, beating out Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, who had 14 votes.

In case you forgot, Ainge transformed a 24-win team from last season and brought in Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, James Posey, Sam Cassell, P.J. Brown, and Eddie House. The Celtics had 66 wins in the regular season, best in the NBA.

  1. Executive of the Year should have gone to Boston Celtics executive Kevin McHale. (Don't believe anybody who says he works for the Timberwolves.)

  1. What a joke! He is the worst GM in the league, maybe sports. Minesota and Seattle basically gave him a championship team. He did nothing!!!

  1. Correction...he transformed a 24 win team by getting all you said but Cassel and PJ Brown. He ruined a 66 team by getting Sam "I am selfish" Cassel and PJ "don't want to pull anything" Brown for the playoffs. Its not too late Michael Jordan can bring veteran presense of Allen and Pierce, and Patrick Ewing can spell Garnett and Perk...

  1. Sorry, Boston haters, this was no contest.
Ainge received the honor this year, but his work in progress actually took about three years to transpire. He first assembled and drafted a team of plucky young potential superstars and expiring contracts that other teams would desire in a trade for unhappy veterans looking for a fresh start.
His moves were worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as some of Red Auerbach's classics, like drafting Bird as a junior or leaving the scouting visit of Cowens early as if there was nothing to see and then drafting him in Round 1.
Congrats, Danny, you earned and deserve it.

    Congrats, Danny boy

Aigne drafted brilliantly, traded deftly and craftily saved his best moves for two blockbuster deals within weeks of each other.

  1. Dont blame Ainge for the way that Doc has ruined the team during the playoffs... I assume everyone read Bill Simmons piece on ESPN today?

  1. Danny deserves it. The team now is getting like when Bird, Parish, Johnson, McHale and Danny played
