Cavs turn tables on Celts; take 42-33 halftime lead

Posted by Michael Vega, Globe Staff May 16, 2008 09:18 PM

Behind a dizzying 17-2 run over the final 6:13 of the second quarter, the Cavaliers rallied from a 31-25 deficit to take a commanding 42-33 halftime lead when Delonte West converted a Paul Pierce midcourt turnover into a buzzer-beating 3-point runner (with Kevin Garnett on his hip, no less) to send the Cavs into the locker room with momentum on their side.

The Celtics, who converted on 14 of 37 field goals in the first half, went without one over the final six minutes of the second quarter, which opened the door for the Cavs to make their run.

LeBron James led the way for Cleveland, which hit 12 of 37 in the first half, with 13 first-half points, off-setting a 2-for-9 shooting performance from the field by connecting on 9 of 11 foul shots.

Garnett had 13 points and 4 rebounds to lead the Celts, who failed to tally a single second-chance point compared to 10 for the Cavs in the first half.
