Third-quarter observations
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Two things changed the game in the third quarter. First, Detroit's defense stiffened and baskets suddenly became difficult for Boston. Tayshaun Prince woke up and hit a couple of shots for Detroit but Chauncey Billups remained the biggest offensive reason the Pistons were able to take the game back.
The other were a few odd foul calls against the Celtics, especially an offensive foul against Paul Pierce after it looked like he was fouled while shooting a three-pointer.
The Celtics need Garnett back in the game and also need to get more shots for Pierce.

Thanks, Joe, for noting the oddity of that call on Pierce. I came here to see if someone would say something about it. I was watching the game in an Iowa City bar and couldn't hear what the announcers said. I thought perhaps the call had been on someone away from the ball, since it couldn't have been on Pierce--except, of course, it was, which makes it the worst call I've ever seen. Fortunately, it didn't matter in the end.

Odd? That was the worst foul called against Pierce I've seen watching basketball for 30 years and it was a 6 point swing since they were in the bonus.
Abysmal performance from the ref crew throughout the series. Hopefully the league will have a word with these gentleman.
as I posted somewhere else here...that (agreeing with Al's post) was one of the worst-- if not THE worst-- call I've ever seen in all the years (over 40) I've watched basketball.
