Rondo blogs about his ankle injury

Posted by David Lefort, Boston.com Staff June 11, 2008 12:07 PM

Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo wrote late last night on his blog that his ankle sprain sustained in the third quarter of last night's Game 3 of the NBA Finals was a "different feeling than I've ever had" and that when he returned the game in the fourth quarter he was at about 50 percent. Here's more from Rondo:

I've injured my ankle before but this one is unlike the others. The pain is on the inside of my foot. All the other ankle sprains have been on the outside. I will be getting a lot of treatment tonight, tomorrow, Thursday to try to get it ready to go for game 4. I did try to go again in the fourth quarter, but I really couldn't make any hard cuts. No one is 100% at this point, but I was probably 50%.

We should find out more about Rondo's ankle later this afternoon (around 4:30 p.m. ET). Keep it here for updates from Gary Dzen and Chris Forsberg in Los Angeles.

  1. I hate to say it, but House maybe added something for the offense. I don't know if he is as good defensively, but it did seem that the Lakers had to spread around more than when Rondo is in. It seemed that when House was in the other Celts were a little more open.

  1. Like Clemons in the playoffs against Oakland, he is begging out.

He should button it up and just say I'm OK

  1. I'm shocked he managed to get off the court without a wheelchair. How many sissy injuries are the Celtics gonna play up? First Pierce, then Perkins, now Rondo. Let me guess - he'll be ready to play Thursday. Take the amateur act back to the NCAAs, fellas.

  1. No biggie, we'll e alright. Garnett, Pierce, Allen are the key. Lakers had to play their best and barely won. KG and Pierce are not going to have bad night like that in a row. Look for Lakers to complain about officials again in game 4 - looser's excuse.

  1. It was an obvious roll of the ankle. It happens all the time in basketball, hopefully he will be good to go.

  1. The league should probably require wheelchairs at all four corners of the court whenever the Celtics play. Oh yes and let's not forget the magic elixer that heals all wounds in 30 seconds or less. Play the game or get your crybaby derriere off the floor.

  1. trash talking people getting hurt, show some class man.

  1. throbbng, you must be a laker fan. all that matters is who wins the series (and you should be very worried the celts almost pulled that one out after having their worst game of the playoffs). the fact that doc and his team are more transparent about injuries than...gee, i dunno, bill belichick...you're reading too much into it. call it "acting" all you want but i thought i saw kobe do some auditioning last night too, maybe for american idol - singing to the referees again and flailing about as usual. good thing the anti-flopping fines will come NEXT year, huh?

  1. What is up with Doc's substitutions? How does Ray Allen stay on the bench to start the 4th quarter? He was the only reason they were in a position to steal the game in the 1st place. With the intensity Perkins plays with, I don't understand why PJ Brown was on the floor most of the 4th either.

It seems that the Celtics are constantly trying to find chemistry amidst a series of random substitutions. As soon as they establish a rythm or get some momentum going Doc shuffles the mix. Conversely, he does nothing to stop the momentum of the Lakers by calling time outs.

I like Van Gundy's idea of having PP, Ray, and Posey on the floor with the bigs to
spread the defense. I'm getting a little tired of watching the panicky three man weave they're doing at the top of the arc. It looks like hot potato when Rondo's in the game late with the Celtics down.

  1. Rondo is a girlie-man. It's the playoffs, dude. Man up and lace them up a little tighter and get out there and play. He is traded in the offseason for sure. At this point I'd settle for Delonte West for Rondo straight up.

  1. The best Celtics offense does not need a true pointguard. It needs constant ball and player movement. Both Allen and Pierce are excellent ball handlers, and exceptional scorers when moving and open. I see the 5-some of KG, PP, RA, Perkins (or Powe) and Posey as the most effficient at any given time.

  1. It's "elixir." Reading these messages from LaLa land gives me serious concern about the system of education in those parts. At the very least, one should be intelligent enough to know a word's spelling may be problematic and thus consult a dictionary.

Speaking of farces, how about your man Kobe's coy statement at halftime that they were playing the same way in Game Three as they were in Game Two (when asked about their newfound advantage in free throw attempts)? It's indisputable that the Lakers were driving to the basket much more and were therefore getting calls. Was it necessary for him to lie on national television to promote the victimization of the downtrodden Lakers? Is he laying groundwork for complaints in case they lose the series? That's not being a "crybaby?"

  1. wow, surprised to see how people are discounting the importance of rondo on this offense. sure house can stretch the defense more, but he's got no handle and isn't a pure point. as a result, the c's were getting way too deep into the shot clock before getting into their offense. doc had to eventually have ray bringing the ball up to compensate for house, which took ray off the wing where he's a better scorer. its no coincidence the c's offense sputtered without rondo.

  1. Rondo this is the play offs, the finals, Who cares how your ankle feels, get out there and play, you can rest it after we win!!!!! GO CELTICS!!!!

Posted by TENLEY MICHELLE June 11, 08 02:59 PM
  1. You guys are fools if you don't see what Rondo brings to this team. He is becoming a threat on offense and creates shots all over the place for everyone else. Hell he even rebounds and of course wreaks havoc on the defensive end and pushes the break like no one else can on our team. He turned his ankle last night. He'll be fine for Thursday and so will the Celts. The one thing about Boston sports fans is that we're so effin panicky. What's Doc doing? Like omg why didn't he like have KG jump the opening tap? He should've called a timeout when the Lakers got like two consecutive hoops like whatevah. The guys not perfect but 66 wins and a 2-1 lead in the Finals better be ok with everyone. Now chill the eff out and enjoy the rest of the series...cuz we're gonna win it!

  1. Red's Ghost, your opinion is laughable. Rondo is a 2nd year player who plays lock-down defense, handles and distributes the ball well and is a good team-guy. He's been fantastic this playoffs, including out-playing your boy, Delonte, in the Cavs series. The guy rolls his ankle on a hustle play, and now you want to trade him for a bench guy?

Rondo clearly isn't tough...nope...he didn't bounce back up after getting clotheslined by Williams against Atlanta. He hasn't absorbed a half-dozen hard fouls going to the hoop in this playoffs...nope. The real Red would have loved the way Rondo plays. Once he develops a jumper, he'll be an All-Star.

    You stay classy, Laker fans...

  1. That was one of the worst games the Lakers have played in the playoffs, and... they... won.

Posted by Rob June 11, 08 03:33 PM
  1. Hahahaha....Steve Conn
    You said...
"the Lakers had to play their best and barely won"

Are you even serious? The Lakers played their best? Every other player except for Bryant and Vujacic was MIA...for Boston, it was Ray Allen and KG. How can you see that as their best play? You're obviously not a true basketball fan.

If last nights game showed us anything, it's that these two teams are more evenly matched than we think. Our cockyness may come back to bite us in the butt if we keep underestimating these guys.

  1. Go Lakers! Lakers will kick some butts on Thursday, L O and Gasol will play like The Hulk, Vucacic will stay like their Machine......Kobe is the Batman will drink all Celtics players blood like his thirsty with another ring. Celtics people will Lakers as their Big Daddy! See yah next season Celtics Fans.

  1. He's a lot tougher than I am. I sprained my ankle on Saturday and not walking on it. And all you people who are trash taking Rondo's injury ... I'll trade with you. You can have my sprain and I can trash talk you.

  1. If Kevin Garnett can be a little bit more aggressive on the basket. then Celtics will win the next 2 games and wrap up the play-off season in LA itself.

  1. Rub some JoJo and DJ on it and you'll be fine.

  1. I'm a Red Sox fan who dislikes Yankee fans but in reading all the Laker fan posts here and on other sites, I think Laker fans are even more despicable than Yankee fans. Yankee fans are obnoxious no doubt, but at least they know their baseball. And they even know a thing or two about Sox players. Laker fans just make asinine comments that show absolutely no basketball acumen whatsoever or any knowledge of their team's opponents--Laker fans just talk trash with zero substance. As such I don't take too seriously Laker fan comments like the ones above about how Rondo is a "crybaby" because it's obviously not true. Can you imagine if the Lakers had to go through Atlanta, Cleveland, and Detroit to get to Boston? They'd be whining left and right.

  1. Lakers won playing their worst game of the series. Doesn't look good for the C's.

    Lakers in 6.

  1. Better Luck next year for the Celtics, Lakers will take them all this year. We are the Hollywood people and We are the CHAMPIONS OF ALL TIMES! Celtics will go home down!!!!!

  1. C's win one of the remaining two on the road and close it out in 6. Case closed. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. They were obviously gonna lose this game and if they DID win by some unforeseen stroke of luck, the Lakers would have surely blown game 4 and we would have swept them. That would have been sweet. I, however, think it's soooo much sweetere when we win it on the Garden floor. GO CELTS!!

    Posted by chriscav81 June 11, 08 04:07 PM
  1. "Can you imagine if the Lakers had to go through Atlanta, Cleveland, and Detroit to get to Boston?" You're kidding, right? First off, Atlanta wouldn't have even made the playoffs in the West, let alone take any team 7 games. And do you really think Cleveland and Detroit come close to measuring up to the best of the Western Conference? The only reason the Celtics even have home court advantage is because they played a schedule loaded with inferior teams in the East. So let's get over ourselves, eh?

  1. "Better Luck next year for the Celtics, Lakers will take them all this year. We are the Hollywood people and We are the CHAMPIONS OF ALL TIMES!"

    No, you are not.

You're still in 2nd place overall (16 to 14) and 2-8 against us in Finals, down 2-1 now, and beat us once in 5 tries this season.

And people in Boston are not easily impressed, especially by phony, shallow Hollywood. Oh, and how bout them Dodgers? How bout them Raiders...oh yeah..

Ok! See "yah" then. Looking forward to having you explain:

    1) why you think Kobe is Batman
2)why you think Batman is a vampire
3)what language "like his thirsty with another ring" was translated from

Yes we are! And your Pierce was trying to get some attention from you guys acting like he was injured, we know the fact that he studied that at home just to make himself looks good with bunch of dummies crowd from Boston. Then, came back like dumb from acting. It's too good to be true my friend, so goodbye to your Celtics and like I said Better Luck next year and the Lakers will still be the Champion. Tell your Pierce he's acting won't even pass to be an extra from any comedy movies.

  1. I agree that Rondo makes some serious contributions. I like the guy. You never see him whining to the refs, and he's all hustle. He just happens to lack both poise and a reliable jumper.

As for Doc Rivers, you gotta wonder what he's thinking sometimes. IMO, you don't take the only guy contributing offense outta the game for an extended fourth quarter rest unless he's got 5 fouls or is having chest pains. Especially in as crucial a game as this was.

  1. Paul Piece and KG are true gamers and are going to come out tonight like a storm and show Kobe and his soft front line how to play really ball. Im so sick of Kobe looking for a call every play, he is such a sally. I can't wait for tonight's game ....here we come LA and be ready for a show.

  1. You Celtics fans must love the fact that as soon as the NBA season is over Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett can't get their asses out of Boston and back to L.A. fast enough. They know as the rest of us do that Boston is a pit.

  1. Being from kentucky and playing with rondo in high school i can honestly say he is just starting to adjust to the NBA. Take a look at the mans stats dating back to high school. Every year he gets better. He will be a star in the next few years. The celtics are kinda of reminding me the 90's bulls. After he makes that adjutment to the NBA you can bet the celtics will be returing champs for years to come!
