Ryan, Shaughnessy on Game 1
Boston Globe columnists recap Game 1 of the NBA Finals on the heels of the Boston Celtics' 98-88 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Shaughnessy talks about the extraordinary efforts of Paul Pierce, while Ryan breaks down a defensive gem the Celtics turned in during the second half.

Congratulations to the Celtics for taking Game One. Your players played with intensity and hustle in the 2nd half while our players stayed on their jump shootings repertoire that would not fall. Our inside players were outhustled by the veterans like Brown and Cassell, now will that continue throughout the series? Lakers will adjust in game Two, a split would take away homecourt advantage but definitely, we lost our bragging rights after a lackadaisical performance.
Celtcis take game 1 with Pierce-ing playing, Garnett-ished with
Shamrocks, and Ray-ning with angels. Lakers saw Red when they looked up at the scoreboard at game's end, and Bird's were singing, and their Magic was gone. Happy days are here again for the Boton Celtics!! Kudos galore.
I AM SO GLADE THE CELTICS BEAT THE LAKERS,HOPEFULLY THEY CAN CONTAIN KOBE BRYANT FOR THE BALANCE OF THE SERIES.I GET SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING KOBE THIS KOBE THAT YOU THINK HE WAS THE ONLY ONE PLAYING IN THE FINALS CELTICS IN SIX.
