Boston Globe columnists Bob Ryan and Dan Shaughnessy recap Game 3 of the NBA Finals on the heels of the the Lakers' 87-81 triumph over the Celtics. Ryan admits it wasn't a very pretty game for either side, while Shaughnessy says Boston missed a golden opportunity to essentially put this series away.

  1. I TOLD YOU
That’s right we won, like you knew we would
But the Celtics team is pretty d@mn good
And KG Big Ticket, I take it all back
    You’re a hell of a player, and that’s a fact
And Doc, Oh Doc, I have to say
You’re one of the best coaches in the NBA
The Truth no lie The TRUTH be told
I wish Paul Pierce wore Purple and Gold
Now that the Celtics have been given their props
Some praise on the Lakers it is time to drop.
There’s Kobe Bryant, Now let me see
He Is What He Is, What He Is is MVP
9Rings Jackson, the coach who uses zen
9Rings does nothing, NOTHING BUT WIN
A star is born and he evaded radar it would seem
It’s Faiths main man, Baby face Sasha the Machine
Yes The Machine is babyfaced it’s true
But turn your back & he’ll hit a dagger on you
Last night Kobe and Sasha were the new dynamic duo
Gone fishing I guess, were Vlad, Pau & LO.
But thank god for the Bench, We love you Bench Mob
What did they do? They did a hell of a job
As Jon K. predicted, The Lakers got their flow
And as you plainly saw, they were good to go.
This is what I expect from Game 4 this is no joke
The Boston Celtics sho nuff will choke
Then comes the biggie, The big game 5
Hide the woman & kids, The Lakers barely survive
Back to the Garden for Game 6 we will go
Where Lakers win the Title, Didn’t yo mama tell you so!

  1. Plain and simple DOC Blew the game. Awful pathetic coaching from Doc. His qoute "No I will not use more of Leon Powe". What is he smoking? Leon Powe can muscle through Laker Defense anytime. I have not checked the game log but I am going to verify that when Powe was there with Eddy House when Celtics were ahead. He goes to a cold Rondo when Eddy was working. On top of it he had a horse in Ray Allen. Pierce is the captain and the leader but Ray Allen should have have taken most if not all of the shots down the wire. Hard decision but Pierce was not clicking. Its clear that PJ Browns time has come and gone like Cassel and Horry. Fourth quarter needed energy.

What happened at 30 second mark? Time on the clock and Doc is not fouling or Players not listening or paying attention! What was going on? 6 points down and it is the finals? Mind Boggling. Ray, Eddy, Paul, and even Kevin can knock down a three. Give your team a chance Doc!

If Doc makes more mistakes like these which I totally expect him to Lakers will come back to Boston with 3-2 lead. Phillup will shove Kobe down Celtics throat and by nature Doc will choke. Mark my words and I see this coming.

    Rules of engagement:
    1. Only let Eddy shoot spot up threes (no driving to basket, no 1 footers off the dribble, nothing) .. Do the Steve Kerr Act and no more!
    2. Pound the ball on softie Gasol and Odom. Pound, Pound, Pound. Kevin, Powe, and Kendrick should give them a beating.
    3. Get Ray at least 5 more shots and not when clock is expiring. If kobe gaurds him he will get tired and if not Ray should have a field day on them.
    4. No Alley hoops and cross court passes because clearly none of them have worked.

  1. Did Shaughnessy have any takes on the game at all besides informing us all that a 3-0 series is insurmountable? Thanks for the press release, goofball.

  1. Doc if you cannot coach accept it and I think a man has to accept his limitations. Doc should learn something from Larry Brown and Pat Riley. When you have something going keep using it until it does not work. Plain and Simple.

First get a tapes of Detroit's 2004 Final Championship. That is what I call "How to gaurd Kobe for Dummies". I see that kind of defense in Soccer 1-2-1. He will still get through but make him pay and get tired of running around. Maybe Celtics need Tayshaun but do the best you can with what you have. Concetrate on that.

Second, all is not lost because Celtics still have the lead so know where 3 point shooters are. Clearly Kobe's 2's were not hurting as much as the three's and what hurt the most were drives by Fisher. Doc did not do his scouting because even I knew Sasha is cold blooded shooter. Some one keep an eye at him. Worst is when Kobe sitting on top with no one gaurding him and it is late in the game. I bet Kobe counted "one mississippi, two mississippi" and then shot that three pointer. Gaurd 3 pointer line and gaurd the paint and let em take those 12-15 footers. Paint and 3 pointers let the crowd go wild and gives confidence.

Third, watch Dallas-Miami Final and watch how hesitant Mavericks got. Riley schooled Avery and you can't blame him that much. Superstar Dirk Nowitzki did not want ball in his hands. Does that remind you of Garnett? Doc is like "well I knew we were going to loose because it is their court". His admission was last 30 seconds where he made no effort to foul. His attitude and Celtics attitude was like "we have 2 games at home" and we just need to steal one from Lakers' home if we can. Otherwise, no big deal. Riley would have played dirty east coast style in LA where he would have pounded and made this game as ugly as he could. Larry Brown would do the same. Even Coach Rudy Tomyanovich used Cassel in his rookie year over Kenny Smith late in the Playoff games (Rocket Championship).

Third, Pray. Yes pray! Kobe is no MJ but he is just as good for Celtics because Celtics have no one who can gaurd him. If Pierce is the go to guy then all the power to Celtics but I am not sold on him or anyone on this team. Past championships show you that you have to have 1 go to guy. Other than Detroit on go to guy win championships. MAGIC, BIRD, MJ, Olajuwan, Duncan, and Wade. Only Exception is Detroit and if Celtics want be like Detroit than you need a Coach who does not flinch, has game plans, and is confident. You also need players who do not choke like Garnett and Rondo. I can see Ray as Hamilton but you have no Billups, no Rasheed, no Tayshaun, and no Ben. They were and and still are just not afraid of the moment. Barely enough talent. Pray that Kobe does not get off and puts up another couple 35 point games.

I don't see a cushion of 2 games for Celtics but instead I see a cushion of 1 game for the lakers. Lakers can drop another game and still get the Celtics. Where as each Celtic loss will incite more fear into the heart of Celtics' Players. Every game Celtics loose it will make that much more difficult for Celtics to win even at home.

  1. Bob Ryan isn't a sports writer, he's a cheerleader. What a joke. But I guess that's what you get from a second rate city like Boston.

  1. Ryan "reports" like he's consoling a drunk friend on a barstool. What an amateur.

  1. The calls were surprisingly fair and neutral.

Face it, the NBA isn't going to work this series to anyone's advantage on home court. This series is now under deep scrutiny.

  1. Phil "The Whiner" Jackson and all the wussy Laker fans should SHUT THEIR MOUTHS about the refs now that we know the REFS HANDED THE LAKERS THE NBA TITLE ON A SILVER PLATTER IN 2002!

The only team that can't win on their own is the Los Angeles Lakers. KOBE WOULD HAVE NO TITLES IF THE REFS DIDN'T HAND THEM TO THE FAKERS ON A SILVER PLATTER!

Celtics take this one in 5. Lakers are done. Celtics are the better team and everyone outside of crime infested LA knows it.

  1. Amazing how people who live in a city whose best writer is Plaschke are criticizing Ryan (and thus Boston) as second-rate. Plaschke is nothing but a hair-puller who prints controversial opinions to get a rise out of readers. Ryan knows the game of basketball very, very well. These informal video recaps are for Celts fans and aren't directed at every idiot Lakers fan who has suddenly decided to monitor boston.com with an eagle eye, waiting for anything they can pounce on in their laughable obsession.

BTW, Lakers fans, is Minneapolis also second-rate? I'm sure you guys love the Midwest and respect it as equal to LA. If you'd like, we can strike the 5 titles earned there from your totals. It's not a glitzy city with real live celebrities at the game!!!!

  1. You are seriously going 48 years into Lakers' history to try to take a shot? Weak, man. Real weak.

  1. I'm a tool. Don't pay any attention to my sorry attempts at poetry. They're just inane ramblings by a complete moron.
