Stapled shut

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff June 16, 2008 07:44 PM

For those Celtic fans left behind in Los Angeles as the NBA Finals shifts back to Boston, you're going to have to find alternative plans if you wanted to catch the remaining games at the Staples Center.

Despite opening the arena for Games 1 and 2 of the series, the Lakers' management has decided not to host a viewing party for the remaining road games of the series. The decision likely came down, in large part, to the incident that occurred at the Staples Center during Game 2 of the Finals.

From the Lakers' public relations staff:

After meeting with law enforcement and city representatives, we have agreed to not open Staples Center for a public showing of any upcoming playoff games from Boston.

Because of concerns for resources needed to ensure the safety of fans throughout Los Angeles on nights when the games would be played as well as potential financial burdens on various city departments, we came to this decision.

On behalf of the Los Angeles Lakers, we encourage all of our fans to enjoy the upcoming games with friends and family and celebrate the championship run in a safe, responsible and respectful manner.

  1. The Boston "Dunkadelic-3" KG, Double P, and Tre-Ray will win game 6 and deliver the 17th NBA Championship for the Boston Celtics.

  1. Too bad the actions of a few Lakers fans will cause fans from either team to take part in something fun. However, we don't know what led to the incident at the Staples Center. There is the chance the Celtics fan taunted the crowd. While the actions taken by a few Laker fans at the arena for Game 2 are not appropriate for any occasion, it is plausible that the Celtic fan who was beaten may have agitated the crowd.

  1. Ryan, I find your comment agitating. Prepare to be beaten silly.

  1. Is that Ryan kid serious? He probably wears purple panty-hose like Lamar Odom. GO GREEN.

  1. Why does the baskets at the Garden stick out further from the backboard than all the other arenas?

  1. Fakers fans are bigger thugs than Vikings fans.

  1. I have nothing against LAKER Fans except the ones who are either blind enough or ignorant enough to think Kobe is better than MJ. I tell them look at the PTS per game, playoff avg,, steal, rings, college, and yet they could care less.

I hated the BULLS when MJ was with them and I still hate them without but the fact is that he was the legend he was made out to be. BIRD and MAGIC were the same kind of the legend but KOBE is the kind of player if he is not playing for your team you hate him. Selfishness oozing out of his ears, arrogance written all over his face, and yet he is not even an ounce of blood that makes one a sportsman.

It is funny because those who pray to him are the ones affected by his selfish acts like Tanking a Finals (Detroit). For some reason those Laker fans are blinded by Kobe selfish play like the glitter of Hollywood. Its like always about him.

I utterly detest Detroit but they have to be respected. My hate does not get in the way of respecting them because they are an ultimate team. They are very much a selfless team built on work ethic.

Kobe, I don't have respect for. It is easy to win 3 rings when you have 3 guys hanging on Shaq while you get to shoot or drive anytime you want.

  1. Hey Ryan you might have wanted to read the story when it happened. Some Laker thug took a jersey that the Boston fan was wearing around his neck. Another Laker fan tried to return it to him and then the other thug fans started throwing bear and a chair. That dude was actually arrested when he tried to return to watch the following game. This was not instigated by the ONE Boston fan.

To Chuck regarding the baskets in Boston - dude what are you smokin? Why... again I say WHY would the Celtics baskets be any different from the other baskets around the NBA? Does that even make sense that they would want to give themselves a disadvantage on every single road game? Use a little bit of logic.
