The jersey

LOS ANGELES -- The Lakers opened up the Staples Center for Games 1 and 2 of the NBA Finals (played in Boston), selling tickets to fans here to view the game on the arena’s big screens. A YouTube clip (see embedded video below) that’s been floating around shows a Celtics fan getting roughed up by Laker fans during Game 2.

The Lakers fans waiting outside the arena today claim to have found the shirt the fan was wearing in a garbage can on the corner of S. Figueroa Street and Chick Hearn Court, right outside the Staples Center. They had the tattered Paul Pierce jersey with them as they waited in line for tickets this morning.

“I heard that guy [wearing the Celtics jersey] was a little too loud,” said one of the fans. “Maybe he ended up in the hospital.”

Check out our video at the top of this entry as Laker fan Ark Sardarov relays how the Celtics fan got into a scuffle with purple and gold supporters and how a remnant remains on the sidewalk outside the arena.

  1. typical, shows just how low class, no morals, violent dregs of society, living the gang mentality and calling them selves fans, really act. , Gotta love LA evidently it stand for Losers All .
Why wouldnt a city who embraces a rapist as its hero, be violent and classless.

  1. All I gotta say is shame on this. This is a disgrace to society. Any fan that does this is not mature and need to grow up. I do not recall this type of nonsense in the 80's. Although the worst thing that may have happened is a Laker fan at the Great Western Forum dumped beer on Cornbread Maxwell's face and maybe ML Carr got some of that as well. That too was a pathetic way to show the stupidity of a fan.
Those fans who act like that need to be removed. All this nonsense detracts from the game and the Team's fans.

GO CELTICS!! 2 wins to go!!

  1. There are fights in the stands in Boston all the time but you will NEVER see random people run down the aisles to throw sucker punches on someone they have no beef with. I don't know the whole story here, but I'm pretty sure this guy had some words with someone in the stands, but not some dude ten rows up. Disgrace.

  1. What should happen is that they should not let anyone in the game despite the fact that they bought the tickets anyway. No fans in the stands should teach them a lesson. Punish them like they do in the military one person screws up everybody pays the price. Everybody loses especially the fans.

  1. The reality is most (99%)Lakers fans are not going to result to violence..its just a sport for peaks sake! There's a bad apple in every bunch...you Celtics fans know that! For those attending a game at Staples Center, be respectful and you will be respected in return! Act like an idoit and you may have to deal with another idiot in return...it is what it is! GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. So where is he security? In every stadium there are going to be a few hooligans - that is why you have security personnel around.

If I was the fan that got ganged up on I'd be suing the Lakers big time for the lack of security response.

Then again maybe some these guys doing the beatdown WERE security. After all it's not like the LA cops have a clean slate. Ask Rodney King about that.
