Lue to Bucks

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff July 17, 2008 08:42 AM

Free agent point guard Tyronn Lue told The Boston Globe on Thursday that he had agreed to a two-year deal with the Bucks paying $2.5 million per season.

Lue was flying to Milwaukee today to sign the contract. The two-time NBA champion was very interested in playing for the Celtics but said they offered a little less than half than what Milwaukee did.

"I'm disappointed, man," Lue said about the Celtics. "We were hoping to get it done for so long."

Another veteran backup point guard the Celtics also have interest in is their own free agent Eddie House.

  1. It's o.k. to loose Posey and Lue. Sign Matt Barnes and Stephon Marbury instead.

  1. Do not ever, ever, ever, ever, ever sign Stephon Marbury. That guy has losing all over him. Are you two kidding?! Have you watched a basketball game before?

  1. Why, why, why would ANY NBA team sign Marbury...an overpaid, overrated, oversexed, overnight FAILURE as a player and ahuman being?

  1. Finley or Bonzi on the bench. Gomes will be re-signed by Minnesota - they have to! Definitely sign Jayson Williams for the back-up PG

Thats all I have to say on that matter...

  1. Jayson Williams is TERRIBLE...forget him. So is Marbury....a total and complete team CANCER. Tony Allen is mediocre at best....if they want him back, make him a very small offer. They do need to resign Eddie House, and Matt Barnes or Chris Anderson might not be bad....but forget about Marbury.

  1. The Big 3 are over 30 it didn't make sense to me to not sign
Posey for 4 years. what they could of done is use him for 2 years and then trade him away like all teams do. Celtics need a strong
point guard and Marbury would be off th hook. I say let the big 3 tell him what all this means and i think he will understand. Then knicks are going to release him and he is going to get paid his
$17M. He would more than happy to play for the mid-level or below to win a championship. I think re-signing Allen for defense purposes would be very smart or Gomes.

  1. wait wait....did he just say House for 2 years and 12 million? I hope you meant 1 POINT 2 million...as in 600,000 per season. Because at 6 million per season for Eddie House, we might as well bring back Gerald Green and pay him 5 million per season, I mean he DID win the dunk contest.........(nods head)

  1. From Bosox in Cali via Waterville Maine: Let Lue go to the Bucks please...talk about one of the most overrated ball players of all time. He would be one of the prototypical worst Danny Ainge mistakes ever!

  1. Half of these posts are next to impossible to understand....

    "It's o.k. to loose Posey "

"go head in get Stephon Marbury"

"giddens has not is not good the club"

    What language is this?

Posted by Jbone July 17, 08 01:53 PM
  1. They should resign Ryan Gomes. He can play!!! Posey will be missed but that is alot of money for a guy where we have others that can step up and play. Don't forget we have young players that will get better and better each year.

  1. I'm inclined to say go with the homegrown guys, Allen and Gomes, and hope the rooks can actually contribute from the 1th and 12th spot on the bench. And it's heartwarming to see folks for whom english is a second or third language engage in the unique American sport of blogging.

I believe that is Spanish, but can't be too sure. Barnes, Bonzi, or Quinton Ross could take Pose's spot on the court, just not off it. Best players available though. Forget Marbury. There's no room for a guy that has his number tattooed on the side of his head.

  1. Gomes would be the obvious choice, but Minny would just match the offer. Time to look elsewhere. Tony Allen will never have the bball iq of Posey, which made him invaluable during crunch time. Please, no starbury

  1. Forget Marbury, his bad attitude would hurt the Celtics.

  1. When the Celts signed James Posey everybody said it was a steal by Danny Ainge. I guess that means that at the start of last season that Mr. Posey was worth a lot more than the going market price. Now that he has been a key part of a team going from last to first it should surprise nobody that his value has taken off faster than the price of East Texas crude. So Ainge won at the start of the season while the rest of the Celt's competition lost. Now it goes (perhaps) in the other direction. That's how markets are supposed to work.

  1. what about delonte west? is he still a free agent?

i doubt ainge will offer more $$ to gomes than what
    mchale can afford to match...

do you think pruitt is ready to be on the active roster
    next season?

Posted by noel July 17, 08 10:37 PM
  1. First off, it is not possible to "replace" james posey and his intangibles via the aforementioned names testing the free agent market.

tony allen probably comes cheap and he is a damn good on-the-ball defender...we dont need him to be a scorer (although remember the month or so before he blew his knee out, he was by far our go-to offensive player, and was damn good).

stephon marbury could probably have won a ring already had he not whined about how he should be paid more than KG way back in the minnesota days. he is right on the heels of Chris Webber in the race for "ultimate loser" in the history of basketball.

Bonzi wells? honestly? does anyone actually WANT him?

i'm sure money is an issue but i'm pretty sure that if the lakers can pay kobe, pau and odom and still be discussing ron artest, then we should be able to work it out too....shoot, take on the contract of kenny thomas (which is a must to require ron ron) then trade him to another team looking to create cap space for next summer...

since that last idea is a huge stretch, lets sign eddie money, and an eric snow/brevin knight type of player who can just be on the court and not kill the entire offense the way sam cassell did every time he walked on the court...dribble, dribble, dribble, watch me shoot guys!...every time, awful...

  1. Marbury is a cancer on teams but this is a unique team. sign him to a 1 one year offer and give him a chance to learn what being responsible is about. I think Allen is a gifted athlete for defense purposes. I think Bonzi Wells is a lights out shooter who could hit those 3 pointers with ease. Remember The Celtics play team defense and that's how they won not because of one player. They should of re-sign Posey because if their goal was to win championships now they are built for that now not on year 4 which
is what Posey wanted. I thought it was a terrrible move because they barely got out of the Eastern Conference and without another impact player they won't get there next year.

Posted by Meetoo July 18, 08 07:53 AM
  1. Sign Chris Anderson for toughness....Matt Barnes wouldnt be too bad....Forget Marbury the ultimate cancer.......We need a legit scorer off the bench.....I think J.R Giddens could be a steal if his head is on right

  1. Just ramblings for your viewing pleasure.

Posey is a huge loss. There aren't many guys in a showboat league who fill in the white space between those four ultimately necessary letters (T, E, A and M) like James has since he learned how to play in the NBA. How many guys are willing to suppress their egos and play any position with passion in order to win? Nope, I don't have any good answers, although I think Gomes has the right mentality, he lacks JP's size and hasn't yet shown the same quickness or determination to be THE defensive stopper. Let's just hope we don't see Posey knocking down 3's against the Celts in next year's finals. Ouch!

Need to have Eddie to help keep people off of KG in the post. Very few sights as pleasing as watching the Lakers wearing that, "Oh, ____! How did we leave HIM open?!" look during the finals. He's a quick release threat who provides the emotional three-point threat every team fears.

It's Tony vs. JR, because their size and styles are so similar, unless Mr. Allen figures out how to play 3 inches taller and 10-15 pounds heavier, like that new Hornet.

Thank you Mr. Cassell, and we have an assistant coach's seat ready for you (as long as you're willing to sing from Doc's hymnal). PJ, we hardly got to know you and are grateful for your contribution; you earned this ring.

Marbury doesn't get a "chance" , because in the NBA past performance is certainly indicative of future success for veteran players (see previous comment about T, E, A, and M). Tyrone Lue!? We're talking about Tyrone Lue, here! Did someone really say Tyrone Lue? Poor guy, banished to the frosty wasteland of basketball mediocrity. Sucks for him, good for us.

The pursuit of banner #18 has certainly grown more challenging in the last 10 days, but after this past season -- and contrary to a year ago -- I'm willing to give Danny and Doc the benefit of the doubt.

    Posted by HoosierCeltic2 July 18, 08 05:28 PM
  1. They should sign Delonte West, Ryan Gomes, and bring back Tony Allen. Gomes and Allen help fill the void left by Posey and Delonte will help make up for the loss of 3 point shooting and be a back up guard at both spots. They also need to develop Pruitt and now is the time. Delonte and Gomes are both restricted so to get them Danny will have to offer longer deals to scare off the Cavs and Twolves from matching. This helps the team get younger and stay competitive for #18 now.

  1. Marbury is not a Celtic, ansd should never be mentioned in the same paragraph with the Celtics. If you were to ask him to spell the word "Team", he would get only two letters right, and those out of order: "ME". There is no reasonable way Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers would or should give Marbury another thought.

    Posted by Gene S July 18, 08 09:06 PM
  1. Marbury is a self centered point guard without a doubt. However, if he is bought out of his $24mill odd contract and he would sign on the vet minimum he can be a strong addition for the celts, only due to his relationship with KG. I think with the Big 3 core, Marbury would adjust and sacrifice for the team due to the locker room dynamics created by KG, Truth and Ray Ray.
