Posey's agent: No news

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff July 10, 2008 05:31 PM

Mark Bartelstein, the agent for Celtics forward James Posey, said there was nothing new to report regarding the free agent.

Teams interested in Posey include the Celtics, Cavaliers, Hornets, Pistons, and Lakers. Although a return to the Celtics is seen as appealing, Posey is a Cleveland native who expressed disappointment earlier this year that the Cavaliers didn’t pursue him last offseason.

Other Celtic free agents include guards Eddie House, Sam Cassell and Tony Allen, forward-center P.J. Brown (who is expected to retire), and center Scot Pollard.

Posey has yet to talk publicly about his situation. But Posey and teammates House, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, and Leon Powe are scheduled to be on hand Monday night for the screening of Warner Home Video’s ‘‘2007-2008 NBA Champions: The Boston Celtics DVD.’’ The DVD will be in stores Tuesday.

  1. They need to let go of Brown, Pollard, Cassell and even T. Allen for more salary cap room in order to resign James Posey. How come it takes forever for Danny Aingle to figure it out? Just look at Philly which they get rid of 2 players & 1st round pick so that they could sign Brand. Danny, please THINK!!!!! You're smart enough to do it.

  1. resign posey and house and i think we will be okay, allen was hurt a lot of the times this year and i know he is a promising young player i think we can do it without him. Plus we can pick up another free agent anyway.

  1. Why isn't Ray Allen going to the making of the NBA Champs movie? And yes, BOSTON NEED TO SIGN POSEY!

  1. We definitely need Posey. He is a very good shooter and is good on defense. Celtics- do whatever it takes to resign him. You shouldn't care about how greedy he is. Think about how good he is.

  1. Posey is a beast! I love this guy. However, if he goes. Celtics better pick up Matt Barnes. That man is a hustlah and can be a knock down shooter when he gets his minutes.

  1. Guys, the NBA salary cap is a hard one to understand. They have offered him the max amount they can, which is the mid-evel exemption of 5.8 million. At this point the ball is in Poseys court, he can stay here, maybe win one more, or he can go home try to win a ring with Cleveland. Ainge brought a championship here, he knows what he is doing.

  1. A much as I appreciate him, screw him. If he wanted to be here he would have signed by now.

  1. Am I the only one that's unsure about using the full mid-level exemption on a reserve? He is 31 and wants 4 years. We also have to plan ahead for Rondo's upcoming contract. If he plays as well as last year he's sure to get expenssive quick.

  1. Posey is an important piece to the puzzle. There needs to be a little give & take from both sides. I agree with getting rid of: Pollard, Cassell, Brown, Scalabrine and maybe Tony Allen. It will be interesting to see how the youngsters perform: Pruitt, Davis and this years draft picks.

  1. We need Posey! Please re-sign him immediately!!! Danny, you did a great job last season putting this team together, please, just keep it together! Great job signing O'Bryant... He'll be a good back-up.

  1. Did you see what Paul Pierce wore on Conan O'Brien ? It looks like it is fresh off the rack from the local Goodwill store. ha, ha, ha He looks like the Prince of Polyester.

  1. Posey will be necessary for a crown next year. Admittedly, resigning Rondo may be a problem, but it must be done too. Danny must figure it out.

  1. Take Cassell for another year. Word is that he wants in with the Celtics staff. Having him around to help develop the younger players would be valuable. If he wants another year to play before he wants to do that, I'm saying it'd be worth it for him to stick around.
A healthy Scot Pollard would be good to have around, but the signing of Patrick Obryant, to me, says there will be no more Planet Pollard in Boston. It breaks my heart. PJ is retiring, so we won't even talk about that. TA can go. Of all of the players on the team, I care the least about him right now.
I'll always have a place in my heart for Scal and those "SCAL-A-BRINE" chants...but he's making way too much money for his value on the court (off the court value is off the charts after the post-game, post-championship interview).

Keep Eddie House but, most importantly, keep James Posey.

  1. must sign back james posey asap get it done for another chance at a title.
forget the numbers results and bottom line the best move our celtics can make.
sure like to see house back to. go cdeltic rock the nba again. thank-you for a
    great year.

  1. Posey's good, but let's not get it twisted people. It's not smart to overpay a role player. Look at his career stats. Dude doesn't deserve a full mid-level contract. If he can't take 4 or 5 mill per season for 3 years, let him walk. There are other guys out there who can play that role. I think he's a really good player, but it makes no sense to break the bank on a role player.

  1. I hope that Boston signs posey. i would hate for the cavs to sign a 31 year old reserve to a four year contract. this will only make Cleveland a better team if he signs with Boston.

  1. Tlhe celtics already know the formula: What it takes devided by what they had , to get their championship Trophy, so this is a no brainer, without James Posey next championship will be in 22 years in 2030.

Posted by Tin July 13, 08 11:43 AM
  1. Posey needs to be signed - no question about it. Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett all want him back and have stated his importance to the team. Posey takes care of his body, works hard and not only plays good defense, but can score off the bench. If Ainge offered him the full mid-level exemption for 3 years, then he should extend it one more year.

Posted by Carl July 13, 08 12:19 PM
  1. Posey is a key role player, but if his heart is in Cleveland let him go.
