Celtics sign Bill Walker

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff August 22, 2008 06:25 PM

The Celtics announced today that they have signed 2008 second round draft pick Bill Walker. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Walker, a 6-foot-6-inch, 220-pound forward from Kansas State, was taken with the 47th pick by the Washington Wizards and was acquired by the Celtics for cash considerations. He ranked second on the team in scoring with 16.1 points per game which also was good for fifth in the Big 12. Walker scored 20 or more points nine times and topped the 30-point mark twice. He posted career averages of 15.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in 37 games over two seasons for the Wildcats.

“Bill’s hard work and skill development this summer has given us the belief that he can be in our short-term plans as well as our long-term plans.” Celtics GM Danny Ainge said in a press release.

Walker will wear No. 12 with the Celtics.

  1. This is a great addition to the celtic's organization, I seen him play while he was in highschool for the nch trojans where he teamed up with 3rd all around draft pick O.J. Mayo. They played well together and once bill got the ball there was no stopping him, he was such an offensive force and could posterize just about anyone and shoot mid and long range jumper, thats what im looking forward to seeing him do

  1. I can't say that I am a K stated fan. But I heard when I heard of Michael Beasley I decided to tune in for a game. I was instantlly taken by the Bill Walker kids game.
This kid is a baller and the wizards are so stupid for tradeing him. I think this kid will be one of those that people will come to realize that he was a still in the draft.
And the WIZARDS will wish that they kept the kid because they have nothing like him on the bench.

  1. Bill Walker is a steal, should've been a first round pick, if that knee is healthy he can post anyone one on one, a beast playing in college with Beasley.

  1. i think they need a experience back-up forward after the departure of james posey which was helpful in their last season and they get the ring.

  1. Walker will be a solid NBA player, and woulda gone 1st round if not for the knee issue. I'm actually surprised to see Darius Miles back in the NBA......I live in Oregon where he last played and Miles often said basketball was "just a job", he never had that "I love this game" attitude. To see him attempting this comeback makes me wonder if he's genuine about wanting to play, or is he trying to cash afew more paychecks? Before the knee injury he had some skills but never seemed to apply himself very hard. Having KG should make him at least hustle if he makes the team. A cheap gamble, well done Danny.

  1. Bill Walker is a steal i hav watched him since high school he's a beast, they were callin him a baby Vince Carter before those knee injuries an i believe he has worked hard to get tha knees back 100%. u can call him a half Stackhouse/ half Vince baby. Wizards will b sick 3yrs from now.

  1. bill walker is a beast. he played high school b-ball in my city cincinnati. him and oj mayo were a dynamic duo. i like the move, it gives the celtics another athletic young guard comin off the bench.

  1. The next great second rounder that will be getting a $50-$60 million dollar contract in three years if his knee holds up! The WIZARDS are stupid, they let go Mase and Walk for nothing! Typical of a Washington team, is Grunfeld the next Unseld???

  1. Walker is very good.

I saw him play a bunch at KSU

The Pistons were looking at taking him but after looking at Walter Sharpe they took the better player and got a good big man prospect in addition in Plaisted who will spend a year or two in Europe before joining the Pistons.

    Good luck with Walker.

  1. It looks like the Celtics are going after young athletic types. I'm not sure about Pruitt, but I know Walker, Giddens, and Miles play above the rim. If Miles can get into shape he could be a nice pickup, but he has been out of the game for a couple of seasons.

  1. c'mon guyz celtics are great for winning against the lakers but next year they cannot repeat it with this crew, there is no substitute for the players that they lost.

  1. While giddings and walker could be of help, posey and pj brown were big helps in the playoffs and i dont see these rookies replacing either

  1. I think Danny is in a no lose situation here. Good move. If it works out, we may have another Poe here who is grateful for a chance to play with a Championship caliber team. Defense is based on desire. It separates the great from the good teams. Boston's committment to Defense is what will carry them through this upcoming season where haters are hoping they will be complacent with their rings. The PGA Tour will not let that happen I'm sure. Go CELTS !!!!!

  1. People please....you talk about this guy as if he is the next replacement for Allen or Pierce....he was the 47th pick for a reason......relax.

  1. he should of went 1st round. if u watched michael beasley play last season u could tell bill walker was mad good and should of got picked up way earlier

  1. darius miles will never be better than james posey, but with the signing of these two rookies, the future looks bright!

  1. He could have used a couple of more years of seasoning in college, but I like his long-term prospects.

  1. Bill Walker is a great addition to the Celts. With his athleticism combined with
youth and hunger to win, DA made a good steal.
Wizards will regret their decision if Walker remains 100% healthy. I can smell
back to back titles for the Greens.

  1. Hello. At my lemonade stand I used to give the first glass away free and charge five dollars for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote.
I am from East and learning to speak English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "This is an interesting and worthwhile thing to do, but unless you become a teacher of."

Thank you so much for your future answers 8). Morgan.
