Giddens agrees to Celtics deal
Celtics draft pick J.R. Giddens agreed to a two-year guaranteed deal with an option for another two years with the club on Thursday. The 30th overall pick in the first round of this year's NBA Draft will begin working out in Waltham at the team's training facility next week. The former New Mexico star averaged 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds as a senior last season. The Celtics also still have a second round pick that's unsigned in guard Bill Walker.
"He's pretty darn excited to be a part of their team," said Aaron Mintz, Gidden's agent.

This guy may be a sleeper. Check him out on www.youtube, as they have several clips of his game.
I was very surprise of his talent, and looking forward to seeing him in a celtic uniform.
yAY!
Congratulations on the C's signing of another quality player. His past is just that, passed and he'll be a contributor for the C's for years to come.
Of course he is excited, he is going to be with the defending champions. XD
J.R Giddens=Sleepa!!! He's got more talent than a lot of the players in this years draft. Only down-side is staying healthy, but boy is he a pimp or what??!
Giddens is a 6'5" SG, in case anyone was wondering.
we want mike jones....terp23
Congratulations on the C's signing of another quality player. His past is just that, passed and he'll be a contributor for the C's for years to come.
Two years? Sounds short.
Let's hope that J.R. can bring the defensive intensity he's supposed to have! Looks like a good pick-up by D.Ainge. Seems like he may be a more athletic version of D.West. Should add to an already tough team!
A good pick up by the Celtics..well done...for signing this young kid..has a good potential to be a part of this Championship team...Horay ....
Shouldn't they have been in a slotted agreement a couple months ago? That being said, he is one of the best athletes from this years draft and if he can apply that to defense then we will have another Danny gem.
the rookies have good credentials but the celtics needs players that are "Franchise Player Material" and know that they lost a player of Championship X-Factor!!! they should loose the "OLD" vets... or look for good trades to have shot on a back to back Championship bid.......
this kid is money. can create his own shot, rebound, and jump out gym. wait and see
Giddens is cool and fast, Pierce is just plain bad. Gidden is the new futue
The Celtics will enjoy J.R. Gidden's talent on the court. I am from New Mexico and I got to see what Gidden's is capable of the last two years. He's very dangerous! Give J.R. two years and he will become very well known as a great defensive player.
J.r. Is the best
Good pick by the World Champs!!! He is a proven player, who can jump right into the mix of things.
J>R> Giddens is a beast honestly they got away with one of the top five players in the draft...that guy was a man amungst boys when he played for Kansas.
bosten you guys suck onley reasen you won in the playoffs was becase you had kg and rayallen how bout you trad them back to ther origenil teams ya LOSSERS
YAY JUSTIN!! good job!!
whats going on with bill walker?
We must give J.R. a chance. If anything he'll provide depth to the bench with his all around game. Hey,it beats having to resort to Scal when you know he's always COLD haha.
"bosten you guys suck onley reasen you won in the playoffs was becase you had kg and rayallen how bout you trad them back to ther origenil teams ya LOSSERS" Wow im not even a boston fan ill tell you thats the stupidest thing i have ever heard. If the lakers had won would you have said the same about pau gasol? And saying a team only won becauuse of its best players? THATS THE IDEA OF HAVING THEM. They didnt get them cause there both shave their heads. Jeez i gotta tell ya thats something special right there.
David:
I was just wondering, do they sell "speak and Spell's" where you live? Onley? Reasen? origenil? Lossers? I dont think I need to say another word about THAT post.
To the guy who thinks Giddens will be the future, and "Pierce is just plain bad" are you serious? Troll much? Do you ever get out from under that bridge and actually see daylight?
Relax people, there is a reason this kid sank so low in the draft. He could be a valuable contribution to the team, but lets not go and make him the next MVP.
Remember what we all said about Gerald Green, Kedrick Brown, Joe Forte, Ron Mercer, Eric Montross.......shall I go on? The draft is a crap shoot, especially when you pick this late in the draft. It's not like the NFL where you can pick up studs in the late first and second round. They take years to develop, if they stay in the league that long. Relax, we already put too much pressure on young players in this town (see Ellsbury, Bucholtz, Hansen, Delcarmen, Rondo, etc) You cant expect them to star overnight.
Great-now let's go after Ben Gordon. Can't think of a better replacement for Posey. This guy could be a GREAT 6th man as well as back-up PG for Rondo.
Ben Gordon?
And how do you think he will fit under the cap?
Oh thats right, he will take a deal for 2 million per year because its the Celtics................NOT.....get real.
I have an idea. lets work out a deal for Lebron....I bet Cleveland would take Pruitt and Big Baby and a first round draft pick...maybe they could throw in a bag of balls too? Do you see where I am going with this?
I hear D Wade is unhappy too, maybe the C's can get him for their 2010 2nd round pick? (nods head)
Ben Gordon would be a hell of an add, but the money is not there right now. Let Walker and Giddens get their feet wet. We are tallking about two kids who were among the top five high school players in their class coming out. Both have the tools necessary to adapt to the Celtics system. Add a matured Gabe Pruitt to the mix and the young guards/forwards look pretty good. O'Bryant is another guy who is in a situation where he can learn froom the best big man coach in the league in Clifford Ray. Size and speed are here. Great future ahead here. Nice job Danny.
Ben gordon would be a great bak up for rondo but theres no money. i say hav a crack at trading perk for superman. give a 2010 pick n its possible.
real dominate guard needs to improve his mid-range shooting, excellent leaper did damage at kansas and played even better at New Mexico state great pick with him under paul pierce's wing look for him to be someone they rely on in the post-season(shout out to KG,The TRUTH,Ray-Ray,and my boy Glen Big Baby Davis keep working its just the begining)
J.R is the truth, and will blossom when Ray Allen's time is up. Danny did a terrific job in getting him and Beast, I mean Bill Walker. Now that is a baller!!! I think he will be an all-star in 2 years. Bill's only down falls are injuries and his 6'6 height. The injuries are something he'll have to control, but his power and freakish athletic ability will make up for his lack of height at the 3
You people Don't know what basketball is..Paul Pierce is probably the only reason you won that series..from a basketball players mind state..I don't know how you trash your own players, but then again you are Celtics fans..I'm glad you guys lost..Posey..to me he was the best defensive player hands dwn on that roster..last season..and coming from a Miami Heat Fan..I think I know what I'm talking about becuase..we only go to games or nevertheless the playoffs..when we are winning..anywho..you guys need a Pg..sign me..lol!im a none restricted Free Agent..Not to say I'm better than Rose..but I don't think he should have been a 1pick...and since im on the Subject..how the hell is Stephon getting 21million a season?playing for the worst team in the league..I didn't even see him play...a game maybe 10 games...or a little...more..there's a good Point guard out there also by the name of Shaun Livingston...I mean I know he had a devastating injury a season or 2 ago...but I think he is worth a shot if he gets one..that's if Miami don't sign him first..and lastly..I wouldn't even take 2million for one season and none have you have ever seen me..play..hah!and think I'm a scrub talkin jibberish..besides..another player that played for Miami that's on your roster..Eddie House..makes an awesome back-up..then..Sam Cassel..if he dosen't retire..you don't need a point guard I think..you need a defensive player..a 6th man..but then again I'm only Rafael Morales..5'7" 173lbs..Right handed..lol!trying to catch a dream that shattered..Glue the pieces back together..786 303-7481..need a point guard..tell Danny Ainge to call me..I'll Be Danny's Diamond in the rough, not a gem..#13..oh and what happen to the Gar?that's the only thing that was missing..AuerBach's Gar!I'm not sure if I spelled that right..you have the best coach in the league..And conGrats...on your Championship..Personally I had the Lakers winning but you guys own them..all-time atleast some1 can say that..I'm 19 by the way =) I'll see you soon Remember My name...!I hopefully will be making the league one day..also..if you want a Pg...Why don't you just sign Professor..Phillip Champion?"Hot Sauce"..Best of all I think AO is a perfect fit..but I just Love the game..Aaron Owens?how could you pass that up?Worst comes to worse look for OverSea Talent that's why you have SCOUTS FOR...
WHAT IS DOC RIVERS UP TO??? HE HAS GOT TO HAVE CONFIDENCE IN HIS BENCH. BECAUSE OF NOT HAVING CONFIDENCE THE CELTICS LOST THE PLAYOFFS. J.R. GIDDENS WOULD OF BEEN THE PERFECT REPLACEMENT FOR KEVIN GARRNET. THE CELTICS ARE PAYING TOO MUCH MONEY TO KEEP
GREAT PLAYERS ON THE BENCH. IF RIVERS STARTS THIS LACK OF CONFIDENCE AT THE START OF THE NEW SEASON , THE CELTICS ADMINISTRATION SHOULD GIVE HIM THE PINK SLIP!!!!
