Allens seek help in diabetes fight

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff September 29, 2008 07:25 PM

Just wanted to pass along a letter from the Allen family:

Dear Cherished NBA Family and Friends!

A resounding THANK YOU~ for your ALL of your support, incredibly generous donations during this shaky economy and most importantly your commitment to the belief that together we can diaBEAThis terrible disease!! Ray and I are in awe of the response we've gotten over the past month from all of you, and we are so happy that with your help we are now $20,000 closer to a CURE for diabetes!

While Ray and his teammates are in preparaion for another stellar Celtics' Season, the kids and I will be preparing for our "Walk for Walker" which will take place in Boston this Saturday, October 4th at 9:30am at the Hatch Shell, located on the Esplanade next to the Charles River. We will be shrouded in love with support from NBA Moms, Wives, Significant Others, brothers and sisters, and of course, our homecourt support, the Boston Celtics' Women's Group!

If you have the desire, we would LOVE for you to join us, it will be 3 miles of walking arm in arm in the spirit of walking together for the CURE. If you cannot make the walk, please know how grateful we are for all of your well wishes and positive energy...it means the world to us.

On behalf of our beloved baby boy, Walker and all the millions of children that spend their days and nights being pricked, pinched, prodded and probed for the sake of juvenile diabetes, we thank you~ we are one step closer to having this nightmare behind us and putting diabetes to bed!

Together, with God's help, we WILL make the cure a reality.

Thank you,

Shannon & Ray Allen

  1. Ok...wait a minute. With all the money these players make and they're asking US to come up with $20,000? Does anyone else see something wrong w/this picture? Are you serious?

  1. Dear Celtsfan,
Until you have seen the joy replaced by questions

Until you have suffered the sleepless nights worrying

Until you wear your knees out praying for a cure

Please ! Do not question anything to cure this terrible affliction.

  1. I'm not "questioning the cure" my friend. I'm questioing a statement made (allegedly) from people who are millonaires asking people who probably struggle check to check for money. Maybe one of Sugar Ray's colleauge's can find $20,000 in the couch cushions...

  1. If you read the blog correctly CeltsFan, she said that with all of the donations, they are $20,000 CLOSER to a cure. She is not asking for anyone to come up with $20,000. She also said that if you could not donate, that she thanks you for all of the prayers and support that you've given her family. Learn how to read and comprehend before you pass judgement and broadcast your ignorant opinion. If it were your child you would do anything you could to find a cure too.
