More on reported Rivers extension

Celtics coach Doc Rivers has agreed to a contract extension through the 2010-11 season, according to a report on Yahoo! Sports. Rivers will receive an increase on his annual salary (from $5 million to $5.5. million), plus incentives that could take his earnings to $7 million, the report said.

Rivers did not return calls and text messages from the Globe last night.

Rivers guided the Celtics to a 66-16 regular-season record and their 17th NBA title last season and has a 168-160 record in four years with the team.

Rivers's position was in doubt following the Celtics' 24-58 record in the 2006-07 season, but the team rebounded after acquiring Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, the season culminating with a six-game NBA Finals conquest of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Rivers, who had a year left on his old contract, confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that he recently came to terms but said he didn't want to make "a big deal about it."

Rivers joined the Celtics following a 13-year career as a player and stints as coach of the Orlando Magic and as an analyst on ABC broadcasts of NBA games.
