Cousy let go by CSN

Posted by Chad Finn, Globe Staff October 10, 2008 12:29 PM

Bob Cousy will not be a part of the Celtics' television broadcast team this season after Comcast SportsNet decided not to retain the 80-year-old basketball legend, the Worcester Telegram's Bill Doyle reported this morning.

Cousy began as a Celtics analyst in 1974, and held the position in some capacity for 34 consecutive seasons.

For the past nine years, he has worked 10 games per season as a consultant, joining Mike Gorman and Tom Heinsohn on the telecasts.

“Some low-level executive called me,” Cousy told the newspaper in a phone interview yesterday, “and basically said that they decided to do two-man booths and they no longer needed my services. I said thank you very much, have a good year and I hung up on him.”

Cousy told the Telegram he was disappointed, but not upset.

“You get to be 80, your priorities change,” Cousy said. “I enjoy keeping my hand in in a minimal way. But obviously this is a very exciting time to depart after 22 years of mediocrity. All of a sudden, it’s fun again for all of us. If I had my druthers, I would have preferred there not be a change, but is it a high priority item? I doubt it.”

  1. I, for one, think this stinks. Cousy is an icon here in Boston and brings so much to the telecast. I love Tommy but Cousy is far more insightful than Heiny is and this is a big loss as far as I'm concerned. I will miss him greatly as the games he lent his voice to were the ones I anticipated the most. Shame on Comcast! Anybody else feel the same way? Let's do something about it!

  1. They should have kept him on - wish I could boycott CSN (the bums!).

  1. Terrible, let Cousy go on his own terms he's earned it.

  1. CSN should be ashamed, Cousy is obviously one of the all-time greats but more than that he's an interesting and well-spoken commentator and analyst. No disrespect to Tommy Heinsohn's Celtic legacy, but I want to listen to what Cousy has to say during the game, while Tommy's screaming about the officiating just makes me want to put the whole thing on mute.

    Bring back Bob!

  1. Granted his contributions have waned, but it's fun to listen to someone with knowledge of Celtics history and CSN ought to be ashamed.

Whoever made this decision should receive a call from the next highest low level executive and be told that his services are no longer needed.

Let's see the Red Sox honor Pesky, their 80 plus year old icon and the Celtics/CSN move Cousy aside with a phone call. Time to call CSN advertisers and tell them they don't get our business until CSN does the right thing.

  1. Absolutely ridiculous for them to let Cousy go. What a classless move by CSN. They employee a stiff like Dickerson but they let a legend like Cousy go?

  1. what?!? cutting cousy? what an unsult. comcast is enjoying their highest celtics ratings in over 2 decades and they decide to drop the cous?

why dont they ditch greg dickerson (he's in mumbling idiot) or that bimbo that hosts with donnie marshall? (ooops, i forgot about the cleavage factor, 60 years of nba experience can't compete with that).

    what an outrage!

  1. Why am I not surprised. CSN has a horrible crew. A bunch of "know-it-alls" that really don't! Felger and the rest don't deserve the Cooz!

Posted by JW October 10, 08 02:03 PM
  1. I suppose Comcast would cut Johnny Most if he were still around.

Who will they replace Cousy's 10 games with? Donnie Wahlberg?

  1. This is a disgrace. Cousy is a Boston sports icon. He should tell THEM when HE'S ready to go, not the other way around. CSN should be ashamed. And for the decision makers to have some corporate goon do their bidding because they don't have the balls to do it themselves is sickening. Cousy has earned more respect than that.

  1. Do the people at CSN really need to remove Couz from the broadcast like this? To be honest, I'm a 37 year old and I actually enjoyed the games he broadcasts because he actually can teach things about what's happening on the court, especially what the guards are trying to accomplish in their halfcourt sets, etc. It just seems like a classless move, if this is really the way it went down. Why not just give him the option to come back and let him decide if he wants to continue. Between Tommy & Mike, it wasn't like Couz would get out of control, they kept him in check (and Couz would actually keep TOMMY in check on some things as well), it's just a shame. He didn't hurt the telecasts at all, so not sure why they decided to make this move

  1. NOTE TO CELTICS: Please put Mr. Cousy on your payroll and have him available for both the fans AND the team to enjoy his knowledge and his experience. Why not put him along side the bench and interview him during time-outs and between half-times?
I think the Bruins are doing (and have done) a great job at keeping the former players and especially the heroes in the fold, somehow. I know the fans will be appreciative.

Posted by Don from Norfolk October 10, 08 02:06 PM
  1. No need for this move...Cooz deserves the utmost in respect, & more importantly, he was still very insightful & "with it", as far as broadcasting. I hope I'm as cognizant as him when I'm 80...CSN shows no class...Best to you, Cooz.

  1. Congratulations !!!! finally a Comcast Executive had the courage to make trhe right decision regarding Bob Cousy. Not only was it time to let him go but how about taking down his retired number while we are at it. For that matter let's take down all of the numbers and the microphone of Johnny Most as well.
I hope this same executive can offer even more of the Celtics dancers and how about a bear who rides a unicycle.
Thank God Red is not around because I think I know where we could find Johnny's silver mike!!!!!

  1. Mr. Cousy,

As always, you are a class act. As a Celtics fan for the last 25 years, it has been my pleasure to listen to your commentary on Celtics basketball, however reduced it has been these past few years. I will miss your voice and wish you nothing but the best...my hope is that we will at least see you around the Garden every once in a while as you will always be a legend in Boston sports.

  1. That's pretty cold and tremendously disrespctful. I thought that kind of tone-deaf communication left the Celtic organization when Paul Gaston sold the club.

Wyc, Danny and company need to make this right and apologize to Bob Cousy personally.

  1. A Celtic and gentleman of the status of Bob Cousy should be allowed to stay around as long as he wishes. His analysis was always on point. In no way has the game passed him by. I hope CSN resonsiders this shortsighted decision and allows Cooz to fill in for a few games.

Posted by Darrell October 10, 08 02:48 PM
  1. Anyone who thinks this is a disgrace, as I do, should write or call CSN and let them know about it. Granted, Cous was only on for 10 games a year, but as a life long fan who as a kid remembers watching him, I still look forward to the telecasts in which he sits in with Mike and Tommy. To add insult to injury, this happens right when the C's are peaking again... that truly is a shame.

Posted by NGB October 10, 08 02:48 PM
  1. Terrible move, I love Cous. He only did a few games a year and it was always great to hear what he thought. I will miss Cous, bad move CSN...

  1. Bob Cousy was still doing games? You clowns decrying this move apparently missed the fact that the guy was only doing 10 games as it was and wasn't really an important contributor. And Johnny Pesky? What, were Mike Torres and Bill Buckner not interested in getting their numbers retired too?

Posted by Dave October 10, 08 02:55 PM
  1. An absolute shame...... one of the best men ever to wear the Celtics green (one of the best players ever to play this game, and that's what he gets??) Would be nice if the Celtics brass addressed this in some way. * and yet another reason why some of us have dropped COMCAST and swtiched to ...the other one.

God Bless you, Cous!! For all the years you served as a player and as an analyst, Thank You!!

  1. Speaking for all C's fans, Mr. Cousy provided insightful commentary each time he was part of the TV broadcast. This move is shameful, a failure to realize that many of us New England hoops fans value the history of the franchise as much as the modern Celtics. Cous is C's basketball. Business is business but it stinks.

  1. I first saw Bob Cousy play in 1953 when I was just a kid and I honestly feel that he, and the Boston Celtics, have been a part of my life and that of my family ever since.
This annoucement really hurts. and if the facts are as decribed here...CSN's action is not only classless , it is also just plain stupid!
Bob Cousy is " Mr Basketball" and no one ..and I mean "no one"! provides a more inciteful, sophisticated and balanced analysis than he does.. For those of us who love this game, Bob Cousy is a treasure. Bob Cousy , thoughout a life ime , both on and off the court,,epiomizes greatness, class and values for all of us to live by. saddeneand angry

  1. That is awful. Cous is very inciteful when he does the games. I know Donne Marshall is their rising star, and maybe deservedly so, but this stinks. Mr. Cousy should be able to go on his own terms and I am glad I switched to Verizon.

  1. As a youngster growing up in the Chicago area in the late 50's & early 60's I was a fan of those Celtics teams and was always in awe of Bob Cousy. Since moving east 40 years ago I always found it refreshing that the Celtics kept a connection to those great teams. What a shame!!!!!! If the Comcast folks owned the Red Sox they would have told Johnny Pesky to take a hike instead of retiring his number!

Love you COOZ....The Celts are a class act and should have him around whenever he wants to be I WILL SWITCH MY CABLE AND BROADBAND SERVICE SO THEY WON'T GET ANY OF MY MONEY.

  1. Dave, you really missed the point here. Cousy can teach Celtics fans of all ages about basketball. There are a lot of ways that he can contribute, whether it is on the air or some other way. His knowledge was never just an "add-on" for any of us who have been long standing Celtics fans. CSN owes Bob, the Celtics and its fans a huge apology.

  1. Dave, you nailed it the Cousy thing, but you flopped on the Pesky comment. He's been an amazing part of the Sox organization...not sure if you knew but he could have gone on for a much longer and more successful career but he was called to war.......

As far as Cous, i thought i was the only supporter of this move until I got to your post. Look guys, he's been great, he's oppinionated, we all love that here in Boston...but let's be honest, he was only doing 10 games a year at the most and has lost his talents. It's so hard to listen to him these days, it really is....it's been great, but it was the right move.

How do we protest?? Let's all get dishes!
    Shame on you Comcast.....

  1. CSN's termination of Bob Cousy was a major P.R. blunder. They've severely underestimated the New England public's love for Cousy, the knowledge he brought to the broadcast, and the sense of rich tradition his presence conveyed. For 20 years I had stopped watching the Celtics because the team was horrible. This year I'm eager to watch them again, and instead of seizing the opportunity and riding the wave of new fan support, somebody at Comcast decided this would be a good time to cut costs. Brilliant business decision.

  1. If we all tune out the first 5 games on Comcast Sports Network and listen like we used to to the radio, maybe they will get the hint.

Posted by Bob October 10, 08 03:53 PM
  1. Mr. Cousy was a great player and certainly should be a welcomed guest from time to time on broadcasts but both CSN and the Celtics are part of the sports entertainment business. As a Celtics fan of over 50 years both in good times and bad, I am sure that this decision was not an easy one to make for the network or the Celtics organization. It's hard for me to criticize the Celtics who just won a world championship and have the financial risk of running the business. The good news is Mr. Cousy went out after a winning season and that's the best time to leave in any business circumstance. I wish him, CSN, and the Celtics well. Right now I am more concerned about the Sixers and if the 1980's rivalry is back.

  1. This is a loss for us Celtics fans no doubt. Even though Cousy did a small number of games, he is a great analyst and probably the most honest one in this area. He deserved better treatment from CSN than some flunky calling him to say they don't need him anymore. I LOVE Tommy, but when it came to 100% honest, unbiased opinion it was Cousy who gave it. Remember him saying how hard the Atlanta series was going to be....and he said it during the first half of game 1.

Posted by Steve October 10, 08 04:04 PM
  1. I find this to be an utter disgrace what Comcast has done. Cous is a great announcer and they are carrying losers like Greg Dickerson on the payroll instead of him.

Posted by Jonathan October 10, 08 04:07 PM
  1. Bob Cousy has always been one of the rare ex-athlete analysts in any sport who actually contributes insightful information to a broadcast. As a young basketball player, I used to love listening to him when he first started doing games in the '70s because I always learned some nuance of the game, especially with guard play. I love Tommy's emotion and Donny Marshall is great, but there are none better than the Couz at breaking down game situations for the viewers. This is a disgraceful way to treat one of the true icons of basketball.

Posted by Mike October 10, 08 04:12 PM
  1. Stations can employ who they want - it's a business decision. Ratings and advertising will judge if they are right or wrong. But to let a man like Bob Cousy go with just a phone call? It needed to be a face to face meeting. Also, how cowardly to do it on Friday.

Posted by Jay October 10, 08 04:13 PM
  1. A whole generation will never know what a charity stripe is, heavy on the french pastry and performing a bit of Stanaslov. As Cous put it, all of the sudden it is fun again. Now, let Cous in on the fun, he deserves to go out on his own terms

  1. Is there something we can do about this? I would like an email address at Comcast where we can all send our complaints. The 10 games that Cousy does are always a nice change of pace. He really brings something to the telecast. This is just a bummer.

That said, I'm totally fine with them not inviting Cous back for this year. I don't believe in people earning the right to work somewhere as long as they want. I'll miss him, for sure. I loved his commentary and knowledge, Lord knows Gorman can use the help, but can respect the business decision that was made.

  1. It is sad to hear that about Cooz. The new owners are high-finance people who received their wealth from the market that is now killing the common man.

Comcast is just changing with the times. Ask most recent Celtics fans what a pick and roll is and they would wonder if you were referring to a new sandwich in the overpriced concession stands. The current fans love the jumbotron more than the game. It is just a sign of changing times. Even KG was making a big deal about Gino on the Jumbotron (bizarre for those of us who lived through the Disco era).
Is anyone aware that the Cooz, considered by many to be the first great point guard in the NBA, could not really dribble well with his left hand?

    Posted by Steve S. October 10, 08 04:38 PM
  1. I don't see anything really wrong with them moving in this direction. But a man of his experience and legend like status around these parts deserves a little more than a phone call from a low level executive. It's not so much the decision itself that I find upsetting it's the manner in which it was carried out.

Posted by Tim October 10, 08 04:41 PM
  1. This is utter foolishness and disrespect! Makes me think of the days when Red was "demoted" by "executives". As a previous poster wrote, "Cousy should be able to go out on HIS terms", not some low-level executive. While I love Tommy and Mike, the few games in which Cousy helped were even more special. All those years of watching Cousy and Gil Santos on road games "back in the day" were quite memorable. Come on Comcast, show some class and give Bob a call back, apologize, and welcome him back...

Although only doing 10 games a season it was always a pleasure to hear him do those games. Something should defintely be done to bring him back in some capacity. I know many people here are disappointed about this but I don't think it's such a bad thing but it's more of how they did it. Some chump low level exec making a phone call? Not even the balls to call him in and sit down with the guy? Comcast should be ashamed of themselves. Whoever made this decision should have at least had the balls to do it more professionally than the way it was handled but that doesn't surprise me when it comes to that station. How did the high level execs @ Comcast get their jobs without having any balls?

Posted by MP October 10, 08 05:14 PM
  1. Bob Cousy and Tommy Hiensohn among the greatest Celtic's of all time. With Bob Cousy only working 10 games a year its such a great a link with the past to the past of the Celts. He set the standard for the point guards of today. So Mr. High Priced Executives, you might just want to re evaluate this really dumb decision. It sounds like youre being penny wise and pound foolish.

  1. Upper management couldn't make the call. Lack of class and balls by CSN. I always enjoyed Cous and his insight. When will corporate America realize that it's not always about the God almighty buck. You needed Cous for many years because no one was watching the C's for their talent, they were watching to hear what the Cous and Tommy were saying about how to fix the team.

  1. this guy was a bumbling idiot on air. listen, don't be too much of a homer. give him a job like pesky; there is a reason pesky doesn't announce games.

  1. Everyone who supports Cousy should call comcast and cancel their sport net portion of their cable. It's that simple.

Posted by peperedick October 10, 08 05:37 PM
  1. Cousy obviously does not cost CSN that much $; Money aside, his analysis and experience bring professionalism to the booth. This is poor judgement on CSN's part. This can be ascertained by looking at the volume of the commentary on this site

    Posted by 14Forever October 10, 08 05:40 PM
  1. I'm glad to see the appropriate backlash already here. Hopefully, the idiot who made this ridiculous decision at CSN will see every one of these comments and understand that there are literally thousands of people who share these opinions. Cousy was here through the worst displays of barely NBA basketball this city has ever seen, and has earned far more in his career then whoever made the call . This is a disgraceful move by CSN and Boudu is right. Where do we write?

To Cous: Thanks for everything. You will always be close to the hearts of fans, and this move is 100% not supported by the true fan base.

  1. What a moron move, I'm sure some politicly correct liberal did this with no knowledge of Celtics history. Cous brings expertise and and can explain the game with the best of them. Danny you should do the right thing and bring him into the organization in some capacity, you know Red would've wanted it that way. Show a classless organization like Comcast what real tradition stands for.
    Cooz your the man!

Posted by Raspy October 10, 08 05:48 PM
  1. Yeah I don't understand why they wouldn't want a legend like Cous, it's only for 10 games, but I always looked forward to hearing him. Terrible move on CSN part, obviously not a single long-term fan on that staff.

    Posted by G-man October 10, 08 05:57 PM
  1. Ill never forget cous's great calls from the bird era...he is the celtic version of Jonny Pesky. If Jason Wolfe is smart he picks up cousy to do 10 games on radio.....Pick the best games, knicks, lakers, cavs, etc... The radio play by playu with Max and "the other guy" are awesome and he would only add to a great team...

    Posted by Steve D October 10, 08 05:58 PM
  1. The Cous does not need to be compared to the Tommy. They are both legends. Comcast does not understand the tradition the network just insulted. I doubt Comcast consulted with the Celtic ownership which does seem to hold respect for which all team owners since Walter Brown have acted as custodians.

  1. What an awful time we live in. No respect at all for those who made us what we are. Where is the loyalty! As a loyal Celtic fan since 1960, I am disgusted with this dispicable move by Comcast. The Celtics should step in here and do something for Cousy.

Posted by Clifford Cohen October 10, 08 06:28 PM
  1. He is one of the few (maybe only) commentators who is 'fair and balanced' towards the home team. I don't want to hear a cheerleader, I want to hear someone who knows the game.

Posted by roger October 10, 08 06:29 PM
  1. I'll be sending in my protest. What a crummy thing to do. He's the institutional history of the Celtics. Clearly, age discrimination.

Posted by reindeergirl October 10, 08 06:36 PM
  1. There is nothing about Comcast that is good. Their internet services are horrible, their attitudes in general are horrible, they treat their customers horribly, and now this. Cousy goes back a long way with Celtics fans, and this will bring lots of bad will to Comcast.

Posted by recifense October 10, 08 06:36 PM
  1. Sadly I was too young to see Bob Cousy during his playing days, but I learned just about everything I know about basketball by listening to Cousy's telecasts during the Bird era. I used to watch every game on tape, listen to Cousy's breakdown after the play, rewind, and watch the play unfold exactly as he had described it. What a great way to learn the game.

In particular, Cousy has a great understanding of when and why the referees blow the whistle. He was the first person I ever heard explain the First Rule of officiating: the calls follow the team with the momentum. This simple rule holds true in EVERY sport, but it is amazing how few people understand this concept. If you are in the middle of a 10-point comeback, or if your football team has just intercepted and is driving down the field for the winning score, you will get the call every time. And if you just handed the momentum over to the other team, the refs aren't going to save you.

To the barbarian who suggested that Johnny Most's name be taken down from the rafters, there is a special circle in hell reserved just for you. You didn't listen to Johnny for technical accuracy -- you listened to hear him whip up the crowd into a frenzy. Johnny Most loved the game -- and he was the greatest...

  1. Making a change is ok, the network will suffer any negative consequences from listeners who feel that Cousy added value to the broadcasts.
That being said, letting an employee go via the telephone after many years of service is disrespectful and outrageous - the people involved should be disciplined for their callous behavior.
If I were employed by the company, I'd be looking for another job as I should understand how I would be treated by them - as a nothing.

  1. Cmon Wyc & Danny. Either straighten comcast out or get Cous involved in some other way. He brought so much to the broadcast. He DEFINED point guard both in his career & his commentary.
What can we do about this?

Posted by Pat October 10, 08 06:45 PM
  1. Cousy was a hero to me and I suspect to all who grew up in the fifties. In a time when there are few, if any, of heroic status, Bob Cousy will always stand out as such a person. He was Mr. Basketball. I am sorry he has been dismissed and in such fashion.

Cousy had a regal quality about him and was an insightful contributor. I could understand this move if he had lost his fastball-but he hadn’t. This is shameful.

I understand that he may not have the glitz that helps sell to the masses and build ratings but true sports fans have really lost something today. Is there no role Comcast could find to give us a little hit of Cous insight?

I am supremly confident that the champions (charlatans?) of all that is righteous, (CHB, Ryan, etal.) will respond in outrage and unassailable indignation with columns (which they demand are placed on Page 1 of the Sports Section) that bring Comcast to their knees... prompting a quick restoration of Mr. Cousy's role at double his prior compensation

Oh my, I must have been in an time warp, I forgot that these witty scribes were "cross-over," on-camera, make-up wearing shills, (unlike Schill who would at least have the cajones to speak his mind) now.

Dear almighty globe, sports section of unquestionable motive, I forgot you hired that hack Tony Mazz, when you could have had Sean McAdam, please retract my intital statement.

  1. So ComCast no longer values such a great voice of experience, who doesn't sugar-coat his remarks. In the DVD, "I Am A Celtic," guess who proudly joins Hondo and Sam Jones -- Bob Cousy-- that's who, in proudly stating, "I am a Celtic." It was always great to hear Cooz's commentary! May you live long and continue to prosper!

  1. Somewhere, Red is rolling over. Boston sports fans DO care about history and tradition. Cousy was, and is, amazing. He deserves to be treated with respect for his accomplishments and for his knowledge of the game.
Getting old is not the same as being irrelevant. There have been at least four Boston broadcast legends let go in the last few months: Cousy, Lobel, Liz Walker, and Dale Dorman. None of them had lost their stuff. They just got older. And we've all lost the benefit of their experience and talent. Shame on their bosses.

  1. It is a disappointment that Comcast has so little sense of the history involved in having Bob Cousy as an occasional part of the team. They have an extraordinary property now, and Cous has a lot to offer in terms of connection with the early Auerbach era. They should have offered him a symbolic deal -- say, do 4-5 games, including the LA home game.

  1. Cous knows can relate to the game today just as well as any of the other color announcers, and he has the pedigree to back it up. He always had some insight to what was going on beyond just what we could see on the floor. I don't care if he is 80 or 800, he knows basketball. Long Live Cous!!!

  1. That's awful. Cousy is a legend. He brings great insight to the game and he should have been brought back. He is loved by the Celtics faithful. A dumb move by CSN and a very bad business strategy. This will give them some very bad publicity. How these decisions are made is beyond me.
Mr. Cousy - if you read this - know that we all love you and wish we could hear more from you. I too think you should have your agent call WEEI - that's assuming you still want to heard by the fans. Whatever happens, good luck and god bless you Cous. I have a 14 year (girl) point guard who idolizes you. You span many generations - just like Williams, Orr, Yaz, Russell, Bird, etc.

And right after the first championship in over 20 years...its disrespectful to cousy and the city of boston. I hope this news doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

  1. A couple big things other than how annoyingly unreliable Comcast cable is (I lost cable for two hours during game 4 of the Angels series for two hours): 1) This shows how junior the executives are at Comcast -- they didn't deal with Cousy directly. Anyone with 20 plus years of service, nevermind being a Hall of Famer, deserves the conversation from the top 2) Comcast pretends to be a content provider -- if they really were focused on their audience, which they are not -- wouldn't they have researched that the Cous is in the blood, sweat and tears of Celtics nation. Terrible, Terrible move...Johny Most just rolled over..

No one is claiming Cous deserves an Emmy, but he's thoughtful and knowledgable about the game and ads something to 10 telecasts. And after almost 60 years with the franchise, doesn't #14 deserve better?

This is on CSN, not the Celtics organization which has some class and respects tradition.

They know they can take for granted the fact that we'll watch the games, but maybe if people start purposefully tuning out Sports Tonight, Comcast will take notice. There's still no reason why this firing can't be reversed.

  1. In a demonstration of solidarity for the Couz I suggest that all Celtics fans commence a protest. I suggest the following message be sent to Comcast.
Dear Comcast Executive (or "Mr. Junior-corporate-totem-pole-climber”)
I would like to give you a chance to right your wrong. You have until the start of the season to reinstate one of Basketball's greats, Bob Cousy. If you do not reinstate him I will cancel my Cable, Internet and Home-phone service.
Cous remained with the team and TV networks through the worst 20 year span in franchise history. His commentary is accurate, insightful and lucid. He adds value to your broadcast. He has earned the right to continue both as a basketball icon in Boston and as a professional commentator.
All of your competitors will love to have my business and the business of all of the true Boston sports fans. Come on Boston do what is right and follow my lead. Who is with me?

  1. The man you want to speak with is Bill Bridgen, the GM and VP of Comcast Sports Net New England. This was his decision. What, for 10 games a year you couldn't have an extra person with personal knowledge of the team history? Yes, they can hire or fire people as they wish, but the Celtics learned a painful lesson in the Pitino years, a lesson Bridgen has yet to learn. You don't behave in a classless manner. Bridgen owes Cousy a public apology, and retroactive reinstatement, should Cousy decide to continue associating with them. Until a proper resolution happens, I'll be urging my fellow Celtics fans in New England to boycott the broadcasts of CSN and contact the advertisers to do the same.

  1. This is an absolute disgrace. CSN should lose the right to broadcast the C's. Cousy's mispronunciations were a staple of my growing up in Boston. CSN should right this wrong right now, not just reinstating the icon, but also upping him to 20 games per season

As a junior high school student, I used to go to Celts games, pay $2.00 for a 3rd balcony seat and immediately sneak down to a seat in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd row and watch in wonderment the magical things this man could do on the court.Bob Cousy to this day could make plays that no player before or after him could emulate. He is a player for all time, whose greatness transcends the era he played in akin to his teammates Sam Jones ,Russ, Hondo and Heiny.
Wic Grousbeck and the CSN network GREEDHEADS should be taken out back for a sound caneing for such an odious move. Johnny Most, bless his everlasting soul must be rightfully livid over this declasse decision.

Seriously, the guy complains about fouls the entire game even when the celtics aren't. The worst is his comparison in the number of fouls...whoever said they were going to be equal on each side.
