Petition for Cousy

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff October 17, 2008 02:00 PM

Unhappy over Comcast's firing of legend Bob Cousy from Celtics broadcasts, several groups of fans are intent on doing something about it.

Fans from the blog perkisabeast.com, as well as a writer from the Suffolk University Voice, have made us aware of a petition circulating to return Cousy to Celtics broadcasts.

Fans wishing to sign the petition can do so here.

  1. Cousy is the best analyst in the game. The old guy moves at his own pace, but is always spot on. Please bring him back.

  1. It's time to move on from the Couz -- no disrespect. Nothing seems good enough for him. He's even admitted to not following the game in recent years as much as he used to. If I wanted a forecast of gloom and doom, I'd read Shaughnessey. I'd rather listen to/watch someone who has more than a passing interest in the game.

I think the onus is on the Celtics to make better use of their legends. It was great to see John Havlicek's face during the finals. Why not do something like the Red Sox and have a different player every night in an Autograph Alley area before the game and in a Legends Suite during the game? Is it too hard to find 50 former Celtics a year?
