The Celtics announced this afternoon that they have picked up the fourth-year option for next season on point guard Rajon Rondo. The option is worth $2.09 million.

Rondo averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.68 steals last season, his second in the NBA and first as a starter. The former University of Kentucky standout averaged 10.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.73 steals during the Celtics' run to their 17th NBA title last postseason.

Rondo, 22, was selected 21st overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2006 NBA Draft. He was dealt that night to the Celtics, along with forward Brian Grant and cash considerations, for the rights to the Cleveland Cavaliers' first-round pick in the 2007 draft.
