Telfair suspended

Sebastian Telfair of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been suspended without pay for three games for pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon, in violation of the laws of the State of New York, the NBA announced today.

Telfair will be suspended for the first three games of the 2008-09 NBA regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

Telfair was arrested on April 20, 2007 after police found a loaded handgun in his car when he was stopped for speeding on the Bronx River Parkway in New York. The incident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. in Yonkers, when police clocked Telfair driving northbound at 77 miles per hour in a 45-m.p.h. zone in his 2006 Land Rover.

Telfair was a member of the Celtics at the time of his arrest. There was also the strange incident of Celtics CEO Wyc Grousbeck removing the nameplate from Telfair's locker in Waltham, even though the point guard was not released.
