League checks out Garnett/Bogut incident
The NBA is looking into a brief confrontation between the Celtics' Kevin Garnett and the Bucks' Andrew Bogut during Saturday night's game, and there is the possibility for further penalties, according to a report by ESPN.com's Marc Stein this afternoon.
The league office confirmed to Stein that it planned to investigate the incident today. Any fines or suspensions would be announced before both teams play again Tuesday night.
The incident happened during the fourth quarter of the Celtics' 102-97 overtime victory at Milwaukee. Bogut's left arm struck Garnett's mouth after the Bucks center drew a shooting foul near the basket. Garnett responded by slapping at Bogut, appearing to hit him in the forehead. Both players were assessed technical fouls, and Bogut was ejected because it was his second technical of the game.
Stein says there is a possibility of a suspension for both players, writing:
Contact above the shoulders is typically automatic suspension territory, but it remains to be seen how the league will respond given that neither player threw what could be classified as a punch.. . . But the league has issued one-game suspensions -- most notably to Kobe Bryant in a January 2007 incident involving San Antonio's Manu Ginobili -- in such cases. For the past few seasons, players have been warned during each team's annual preseason seminar with NBA referees that they will be responsible for any contact with their elbows, intentional or not.

Hey Globe...ESPN is way ahead of you on this...they are reporting that Garnett has been suspended 1 game (to be served tomorrow night)...Bogut's foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 1...
They should have both been suspended one game - if you ask me.
The Herald is also way ahead on the update as well...
THIS IS A BUNCH OF BULL. BOGUT'S ONLY JOB FOR THAT PLAY WAS TO
GET GARNETT. HE WAS TRYING TO GET HIM THROWN OUT. THIS IS A
DISGRACE.
I CAN TYPE IN CAPS
IT MAKES ME LOOK ANGRY
PEOPLE HERE ME MOAR BETTER THEN
I didn't watch the game but I saw the replay of the incident.
1. It was a foul on Garnett, not Bogut. How did it upgrade to a flagrant 1? Unless there was another incident where Garnett is fouled by Bogut?
2. Bogut's hit on Garnett was more or less incidental, it was a follow through on his shot. Of course, all foreign players flail like crazy after they get fouled, and I think that's why he was being issued a tech because he didn't have to be so dramatic. Garnett's suspension, I have to admit, it was a good ruling. I don't like it but KG messed up on this one.
But no biggie, we are still the best!
What is a disgrace is your homer a** complaining about Bogut. Garnett is a punk. Enjoy your championship, but Garnett is a punk. Pierce is your real leader.
