Walker sent to D-league

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff November 21, 2008 02:21 PM

As expected, the Celtics sent rookie forward Bill Walker to their NBA Development League affiliate, the Utah Flash, today. Walker is the team’s second assignment to the Flash this season, following the assignment of fellow rookie J.R. Giddens.

Walker had appeared in two games for the C’s averaging 1.0 point in 3.0 minutes per game at the time of the assignment. The former Kansas State Wildcat was acquired in a draft night trade with the Wizards in exchange for cash considerations.

  1. Glad Billy and JR will get some minutes out there. It has to be frustrating for any athlete to not play at all after starting every game in college. Obviously we haven't seen much of JR, but Bill Walker showed some flashes of greatness during the preseason. He looks like he could be a very promising power forward or even small forward in the League. Hope they both do well in the D league.

  1. I too am glad the two of them went down. We can find out fairly quickly (3 months) what they are all about by seeing how they do down there. they need to play and it isn't going to happen with the current situation of great players and nice rotation.

  1. Bill walker simply needs minutes. He is a beast in the making. Strong physical and talanted. Once he gets to play in Utah and the celtics schedual finds time for practice, he can pick up the defense and get real game minutes. By mid season I hope to see him getting minutes regularly.

  1. bill is a good kid and an amazing talent, that deserves nothing but the best. He has the ability right now to be a star but he just needs some playing time thats all. If not for his injuries, he would be an allstar right now. The celtics should bring him up and use him at least 10 to 15 minutes a game and he will be a key bench player and eventually a star in the league.
