A turn for the worse

Posted by Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff December 1, 2008 08:53 PM

The Celtics seemed to have everything going their way early in the second quarter against Orlando.

But, after Glen Davis' 16-footer gave the Celtics a 37-22 lead 2:37 into the quarter, things took a turn for the worse for the Celtics. First, Tony Allen sustained a sprained right ankle on a drive. Then, Rashard Lewis sparked a Magic rally. Allen returned to defend against Lewis, but could do little to slow him down late in the quarter.

Lewis scored seven points in a 70-second span, his 3-pointer with 32 seconds to go cutting the Magic halftime deficit to 48-46.

The Celtics also lost Sam Cassell to two technical fouls with 4:40 remaining, after he contested while on the bench a call by official David Guthrie, who had whistled a foul on Kendrick Perkins. Lewis converted one foul shot to pull Orlando within 40-35.
