Doc brings the trophy home

Posted by Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff December 1, 2008 07:38 PM

Doc Rivers did not come close to winning an NBA championship as coach of the Orlando Magic. But Rivers did bring the Lawrence O'Brien trophy to Orlando briefly; after the Celtics' title win in June.

"I did have (the trophy) for a couple days," Rivers said before the Celtics-Orlando game Monday night. "I set it at the breakfast table, I didn't have a party or anything. I just had it in the house, because I wanted to look at it and be very close to it. Because I had refused to touch it -- I had been in the room with it a lot -- I just didn't think you should touch it unless you win it."
