Door open for P.J.

Posted by Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff January 1, 2009 06:32 PM

The Celtics seemed to accept P.J. Brown's decision to retire from the NBA, but they are leaving open the possibility of a return.

"If that's his decision, I support it," Kevin Garnett said after practice Thursday. "Somewhere
down the line, if he changes his mind, I'm pretty sure the door is open for him.

"There only one P.J. Brown and if you look it up in the Yellow Pages, he wouldn't be as tall or he wouldn't be as smart basketball-wise."

Coach Doc Rivers was not surprised by Brown's announcement.

"He told us that," Rivers said. "But we don't believe him, I'm hard-headed, I've heard that before.

"I think it's official but I'm still going to check. I'm good at making people change their minds -- I got my wife to marry me."

  1. Mark: Thanks for your pretty good reporting. I hope you like Boston.

PJ- We know you are reading this. It'll just be a couple months, another ring, and even greater prestige for yourself. Unless you're scared.

  1. I'm a rival Laker fan, and even I think that you guys need to get over P.J. Brown.!

Just take what to got from him in the post season last year and be happy, jeez!!!!!
There is no way he can help you now Andrew Bynum is healthy, so why woud you risk the integrity of P.J. and the management skills of your organization by bringing this classy guy back just to get beat down and embarased on the national stage.

The Lakers own you again! This is obvious by the game on Christmas where we totally dominated you.
-Our started are better than yours.
-Our bench is better than yours.
-The Lakers are hungrier than the Celtics.
-We currently employ the league's, soon to be, two-time MVP, Kobe Bryant.
Bottom line: DON'T DO THAT TO P.J.!!!!!!!!

  1. Does anyone know how to get to P.J. Brown via e-mail, regular mail, carrier pigeon, whatever? It's time for the write-in campaign to begin! Let's get him back in a Celtics uniform again just after the All-Star break!

P.S.: To My Brother and Sisters in Green: Don't dignify any pro-Laker comments with a response. If ignorance is bliss, then Laker fans must be the happiest people on earth - until June, anyway. (If they even get that far).
