Ex-Providence star Croshere waived by Bucks

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff January 6, 2009 12:19 PM

The Bucks have requested waivers on ex-Providence star forward Austin Croshere today. It will be interesting to see if the Celtics, who have been looking for a veteran big to fill the shoes of P.J. Brown, show interest in the 6-foot-10-inch, 240-pound veteran forward.

Croshere appeared in 11 games with the Bucks and averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7 minutes per game. The 33-year-old has played in 68 career playoff games, including the 2000 NBA Finals in Indiana.

Croshere's agent, Dan Fegan, says he is hopeful he will hear from the Celtics. While Croshere would have to clear waivers to become a free agent, there are teams interested in possibly claiming him and the remaining $797,581 of his contract this season. In the meantime, Croshere will be working out in Indianapolis.

The Celtics currently have a maximum 15 players on their roster.

When asked if the Celtics are interested, Fegan said, "I hope they are. That's one of my first calls today. He makes a lot of sense for them. (Celtics president) Danny Ainge always told me he likes him."

  1. Does Austin have anything left in the tank? Is so they may want to take a look because we need some addtional size and another gaurd/foward type who can hadle and shoot.

  1. austin would be a wonderful addition to the bench with marbury also would give us enough fire power to make a strong run for that 18th banner.

  1. Croshere is not a guard/forward, and he certainly can not handle the ball. He can play the 4 and possibly the 3. He is a good shot, but can't create too well on his own.
