Garnett hums the 'Superman' theme in honor of Pierce

Posted by David Lefort, Boston.com Staff January 13, 2009 08:10 AM

After last night's victory, there was a light moment in the postgame press conference when Kevin Garnett described Paul Pierce's performance (39 points on a sore knee) the only way he felt appropriate -- by humming John Williams's 'Superman' theme song. Click the YouTube video below to watch.

  1. It definitely says a lot when the Celts are able to take down the mighty Raptors in OT. Watch out Wizards!

  1. That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

  1. Well Nick, if the Celtics suck as bad as you think they do, surely a two game winning streak over the "lowly" Raptors is a step in the right direction, no?

I don't care who they beat or how they beat them. This team needed some kind of momentum.

  1. ANY win was a step in the right direction for the Celts. By the way, do the Celtics players hold a press conference after EVERY game?

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 13, 09 05:06 PM
  1. ALL THAT???????
    Are you serious?????????

It took the Sun, the Moon, the stars, SUPERMAN HIMSELF...

to get you that overtime win over the freakin' Raptors last night???

AND THEN AFTER THE GAME, THEY HOLD A PRESS CONFERANCE THAT LOOKS LIKE ONE THAT HAS BEEN TAPED DELAYED SINCE LATE JUNE, WHEN THEY ACTUALLY WON SOMETHING !!!!!!!

They should be disgusted in themselves!!!!!!

The Raptors are a team that you put away early and give your starters some rest. I'll Garnetee(haha) that the Big Three are gonna be dead and give you nothing for the next couple of days. They have to be drained, I saw the game. Those guys are spent!!!!!!!

And you know that they are going to be crowing about it, puffing those egos and loading up the hog with tons of ammo.

    Celtics Blog,

Do you want to know one key to success??

    Treat your wins like losses!!!!!!!

Treat your wins like losses and you will never lose!!!!!

  1. ---Believe me, no one in the NBA is impressed with your 2 wins over a bottom feeder.---

    Nick the Quick,

    You're the man!!!!!!!!!!
You called it out perfectly. And if there was anything impressing about last night, it was the Raptors performance!!!!!!!!

  1. Man... I really wanted Lakers vs celtics in the finals again, but I guess im just going to have to settle with Lakers vs Cavs. Anyway Go Lakers!

  1. Nick/Hog,

Wait. You're saying other teams don't talk to the media after the game? Really? And you're saying the Celtics ("one game at a time"), the defending NBA champions, have somehow over-inflated their accomplishments over the past year? I'm not sure a single NBA team has accomplished, well, anything, besides the Celtics, in the last year-plus. Until the Celtics are eliminated this season, any criticism comes from the jealousy that comes when you want something you can't have.

  1. I am usually pretty reserved and dont get involved in this Lakers/Celts petty BS but I gotta say... The Lakers fans that come in here are such idiots. Honestly, you talk so much trash and it never makes any sense. Listen - you won ONE game on Christmas Day! We made a fool of you last June in six games! Even the games we lost we were more professional then the Lakers. All I saw during the finals was a pouting Kobe flipping on his team mates and a sarcastic Phil Jackson complaining about the Refs every game! Get a life!

  1. I was completely wrong about cannibus hog last week. He's actually quite zen. In fact, if he was coaching the Lakers instead of the Zen Master last year, they would have won in seven.

the rest of the Lakers trolls could learn a thing or two from him!

All kidding aside, the way the Celtics have played the past three weeks, I'll take any win, any way I can get it. This isn't figure skating. Screw style points.

  1. That press conference was a riot! I was laughing so hard last night.

  1. Wait until June,

    June?? now THAT is funny.

What is funnier to me is the fact that you somehow misread my post.

Do other teams hold press conferences after games? Yeah.

    BUT...
When was the last time you heard a classy team like the Lakers kiss each other 's asses after an overtime win against a team that should be blown out???

    NEVER!!!!!!! That's bush-league.

Even those chumps down in San Antonio are smart enough not to let a little (lucky) win get to their heads!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what does that say about the mentality of the C's??????????

They are weak and are in no way qualified to repeat as Champions.
    They make me sick.

    Wait until May

  1. Right, because the Lakers didn't lose to Memphis or Washington this year. oh wait a minute....

Posted by Classless January 14, 09 01:49 AM
  1. I think I'll take a pass on winning 1 championship in 23 years. Jealousy? Not so much.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 14, 09 02:37 AM
  1. With the Loss of Posey, Boston lacks defensive size off the Bench, gritty scoring
off the bench, and strong productive minutes off the bench. The recent losses are a result of the "Big Three" having tired legs. If this situation is not corrected, Boston will be hard pressed to defeat Cleveland, Orlando, Atlanta, and Detroit in a play off series.

  1. "ANY win was a step in the right direction for the Celts. By the way, do the Celtics players hold a press conference after EVERY game? "

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 13, 09 05:06 PM

Can you really be that ignorant? Seriously? What is your exposure to the NBA and the media?

Posted by Jay January 14, 09 10:23 AM
  1. Wait,
I'm saying other teams don't hold PRESS CONFERENCES after wins over low level teams. They have locker room interviews. And let me clarify for you - the Celtics have one accomplishment over the past year, no more. Like I've said, that puts the modern day Celts on par with the Miami Heat. Congrats. And one last thing - no, we Laker fans are in no way jealous of your one NBA Championship in 23 years.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 14, 09 10:45 AM
  1. Jay,
Can you explain your ignorant post? What part of it went over your head? Was it the big words like "direction" and "conference"? Or was it the combination of several words to form a sentence that threw you for a loop?

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 14, 09 11:16 AM
  1. Uh, Classless? The Lakers beat both those teams. Are you by any chance wearing protective headgear? Because slamming your head into the keyboard is not the best way to enter a post on this blog...

    Better luck next time.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 14, 09 11:22 AM
  1. If you're not jealous of our "one measly championship" then you're sure acting like it. Quit hating and feel free to gloat IF you can beat us in a game that really matters. Does that 39 point game 6 blowout still hurt? ICE IT!

    Posted by DI$CO January 14, 09 12:04 PM
  1. No, you're jealous of the 17 championships over all and the events of the past 365 days.

Any attempts to say otherwise are contradicted by your continued presence in this blog.

  1. Celtics blog,

    About your last Chip:

Like I said before, Trevor Ariza's broken foot was the Finals MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Celtics should have had a rig made for him!!!!!!
    I'm serious. No joke.

He can be single threat to pretty much everybody on your whole squad!!!!!!!

    He can personally shut down:
    -Rondo
    -Pierce
    -R.Allen
    -T.Allen
    -House
    -Powe
-He'll even get up and block that ugly looking three pointer Scalabrine gives you a few times a game.

Phil Jackson can just sic him on whoever he wants, whenever he wants!!!!

That's why his name will be the first one dropped(I'll guarantee you) when Kobe makes his second consecutive League MVP speech this year!!!!!!!

One of my missions on this Blog is to let you know that. I need you to realize that the Lakers are the better team. This will be no fluke.

We were inches from a seven game series, it was basically a tied series.

Or has the success gone to your head so much that you have quickly forgotten?
-Game 1 came down to the final minute.
-Game 2 came down to the final minute.
Game 3, we came back from a 24 point deficit and the game came down to the final minute.
-Game $, you came back from a 24 point deficit and the game came down to the final minute.

    (Am I jogging anything yet??????)

-Game 5, (you were still in L.A. and didn't have to travel anywhere, mind you) We stomped you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In game number six, we had a horrible game. you stomped us.

    One game!!!!!!!

One game cause you guys to act like a bunch of fools. "WHAT'CH U GONNA SAY NOW? WHAT CAN THEY SAY NOW?"

What in the hell was that???????????

It was just one game, just like the Christmas game was only one game.
You guys may have won a Championship(finally KG), but at least we got to see you guys go 2-8 right after it!!! Something that you will never be able to say about your victory over us.

    Nah, let's see...

-Kobe immediately won an Olympic Gold Metal!!!!!!!!!
    -Pau won a Silver.
-And then the Lakers resumed camp and formed what is now the BEST TEAM IN THE NBA!!!!!!!!

It won't be long before the Lakers are a Dynasty again and your one lucky season is all but forgotten.

  1. I see it as a win is a win. This applies to all NBA teams. In sloppy victories, like the Celtic OT victory agaisnt the raptors, what matters is who has the W at the end.

I still need the Celtics to get it together so we can have the rematch!
Come on Celtic fans, you know you want the same as us Laker fans ...a rematch.

  1. That's some rock solid logic right there, Pork. How do you find time to get away from the Physics lab to post?

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 14, 09 02:35 PM
  1. You know your franchise is no longer relevant when your "fans" have to dig up titles from 50 years ago to defend your current team. 23 years. 1 title. The Boston Heat.

  1. cannibus hog, the difference though between the Christmas Day game and Game 6 of the Finals is that one was for a championship and the other was not. to quote KG as you have before "What can you say now?". :-P

    Posted by DI$CO January 14, 09 04:26 PM
  1. I'll be perfectly honest with you: the rivalry with the Lakers is fun and all, but I wouldn't be disappointed if they met up with a different western team in the Finals, provided that the Celtics win (of course).

Basically, a championship caliber team does have a window of opportunity and it when it closes, that's all she wrote. I wasn't disappointed when the Red Sox had to play the Tribe and not the Be-PInstriped Ones in the ALCS two years ago and it wouldn't pain me at all if the C's did make it to the Finals and had to play the Hornets or the Blazers or some other team...

Posted by Pork Butcher of the World January 14, 09 04:29 PM
  1. The Blazers? You kiddin' me? There is NO ONE in the West worried about them, despite what they did to Boston. The Celts need to just worry themselves with getting into the playoffs with homecourt advantage in the first round.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 14, 09 06:42 PM
  1. ... which is pretty much what I said.

Posted by Pork Butcher of the World January 15, 09 09:02 AM
  1. Don't mind him, blind Laker trolls are mentored to attack on sight.

    Posted by DI$CO January 15, 09 01:16 PM
  1. I would think the Boston "fans" would want their team to aim for more than home court in the first round. But, then again, Los Angeles fans have loftier standards.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 15, 09 01:44 PM
  1. Yeah, Laker "fans" do have "loftier standards" like actually "cheering" for your "team" for example. See? I can use quotation marks too!

    Posted by DI$CO January 16, 09 10:03 AM
  1. "Fans" is shorter than "bandwagon fans." Because you losers were nowhere to be found when your sorry franchise was losing year after year.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 16, 09 04:20 PM
  1. I just started reading this blog, but wow. Is this a Lakers blog or a Celtics blog? Seriously, why the f would you seek out a rivals' blog just to talk random sh**?What kind of loser does that? So, instead of supporting and commenting on your own team you come to another teams blog to be a troll. Nick Van Exel and the other Laker trolls that come here must seriously have no life to be spending so much time on this blog. Anyways why do you guys even respond to them. You should literally just pretend they didn't post and just talk amongst yourselves. This is the only time I'll ever post in regards to trolls.

    Posted by schiftya2 January 17, 09 02:55 AM
  1. Oh please, the people who usually go to Laker games are so fairweather. Half the time they're either gawking at the celebs attending or talking on their cell phones. The jealous is literally foaming out of your mouth Nick. Just because the Celtics rose up from one of the worst seasons to one of their best in franchise history (beating the Lakers pretty severely to win the whole thing I might add) doesn't mean you have to waste away your life on a Celtics message board. Did they kick you out of the L.A. Times message boards or something? Try winning a championship first WITHOUT Shaq for a change before spitting venom. Whiners don't make winners tool. :-P

    Posted by DI$CO January 17, 09 10:03 AM
  1. Thanks for the props, schiftya2. Have a nice life.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 18, 09 06:47 PM
  1. Damn, you Celt "fans" sure look for the softballs. I got the "L.A. fans talk on their cell phones" bit already. That's good stuff. Where'd you pick that up? Been watching a little Leno? Truth is, Lakers games have been packing them in consistently since the early 80's. How bout the Celts? Nope, that place was a damn graveyard for two decades. That's what happens when you come to expect a mediocre team. So, again - congrats on winning last year. You and the Miami Heat must be proud of yourselves.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 18, 09 07:05 PM
  1. So the only valid championships are the ones that Lakers managed to win? Good to know good to know.

Yet David Stern keeps having NBA Finals involving other teams anyways. He is a confusing.

Nick, just for curiosity's sake, do you peddle the same nonsense to Phillies or Giants or Red Wings fans? Or are we the only ones lucky enough to be graced by your presence?

Posted by Pork Butcher of the World January 19, 09 09:17 PM
  1. "Peddle the same nonsense"? Who the hell talks like that? Are you 80? And yes, I agree, David Stern is "a confusing".

I'm not sure how else to explain it in words you can comprehend, Pork. The Lakers have been winning consistently for the past three decades. Sure, there have been down years, but nothing like the down years the Celtics franchise has experienced and accepted the past 23 years. So you'll understand if the NBA world isn't entirely sold on the Boston's return to prominence quite yet. Thus far, the Pierce Celtics are merely a one title team.

Posted by Nick Van Exel January 20, 09 12:58 PM
  1. all you lakers fans need to stop talking we are in no way like the miami heat you got one good game vs us on Christmas day we have played more games than any team in the nba and you should be jealous you have a player that is suppose to be better than Jordan and he could barely score against us in the finals that is why we blew you out in game six in boston and came back from a 24 point deficit with help from Eddie House and Leon Powe (who beat you one game in the finals basically by himself just like Pierce and Ray Allen did) so we don't need Posey heres a question for you too if you guys are so good why haven't you been able to win since Shaq left L.A. he had no trouble winning without cry baby JKobe The lakers are all done every time they get close to the championship they choke like donovan McNabb maybe Gasol and Kobe should do the Chunkys sooup commericials too.
