Giddens, Walker recalled; Allen at home

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff January 8, 2009 04:35 PM

The Celtics announced Thursday that they have recalled rookie guard J.R. Giddens and rookie forward Bill Walker from their NBA Development League affiliate Utah Flash.

Giddens appeared in 13 games for the Flash averaging 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 rebounds, 1.46 steals, a team-high 1.54 blocks all in a team-high 37.6 minutes per game. Giddens was ranked 20th in the NBDL in scoring, 13th in field goal percentage (53.5%) and seventh in blocks. The former New Mexico Lobo was the selected by the Celtics with the 30th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Walker appeared in 15 games for the Flash averaging a team-high 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.33 steals in 30.5 minutes per game. Walker was ranked 11th in the NBDL in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage (55.7%). The former Kansas State Wildcat was acquired in a draft night trade with the Washington Wizards in exchange for cash considerations.

Celtics guard Tony Allen is expected to be out at least the next two games with a right ankle sprain and did not take the team plane on the two-game road trip. Allen will miss his third straight game against Cleveland tomorrow night.

On the Celtics' recent struggles, Cavaliers star LeBron James said: “It’s something I can’t worry about. I’m not a part of their franchise. I’m not a part of the Boston team. I don’t know how it is up there. I’m not in their locker room.”

  1. Gotta love that LeBron. I'm a C-fan but I couldn't agree with him more. What a dumb question. Can't wait for the war that will be waged tomorrow night in Cleveland. LeBron is obviously primed.

  1. I hope Doc tries to work these two guys in to see if there is a fit. The bench has sucked most of the year. Danny made a big mistake not re-signing Posey.

  1. IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU WOKE UP! GIVE THESE GUYS A CHANCE,SORRY WE DON'T HAVE POSEY,BUT WE'LL HAVE TO COVER THAT.WHAT ABOUT CROSHERE?THIS IS THE TIME TO GET ON PERKINS CASE. EITHER HE'S HURTING OR PLAYING VERY POORLY.IF HE CAN'T GIVE US 12-15 PTS
PLUS 8-10 RBS. SIT HIS BUTT ON THE BENCH. STAY AWAY FROM MARBURY
AS IT SEEMS THAT OUR DOWNFALL STARTED WITH THE TALK OF HIM BECOMING A CELTIC. HE'S NOT CELTIC MATERIAL,HE BELONGS IN
WAX MUSEUM SHOWING OFF HIS TATOOS..GET CROSHERE!

  1. I don't think Posey was worth what he was asking but the bench definitely has problems.

  1. Bill Walker equals energy + athleticism. I hope both these guys play some meaningful minutes and show us what they can do....

  1. I am soooooo frustrated watching the C's recently and I just can't believe that their issue is Posey - he was good, but not that good - they just don't have their act together this season - AT ALL!!! It is all mental - either their egos are in the way or they just could give a rat's (behind) anymore. Where is the spark that I witnessed in the pre-season games - you looked unbeatable then - invested in teamwork - now I just see sloppy passes and babyish attempts at fouls - COME ON GUYS - GET WITH IT

  1. everyone just needs to relax...
This team is still sick. They went on their run, then they lost a game, now all that adrenaline of the streak is gone. They'll get it back, maybe tomorrow who knows, but this team is still the best in the EAST and you will see it come playoff time, or against the real good teams.

you can't play as good as they were playing all the time. The streak ended, now they are taking their taking a breath.

  1. I feel it's all about getting every teams best effort. They with stood it early but it begins to wear on any team. The starters need more help from the bench. They need a bench that can hold and possible extend a lead. I really feel all they need is a P.J. type player and they should be all set. Joe Smith is looking really good right now.

  1. Hey Celtics - where’s the fire????? it has been so awful watching the Celtics play recently.... poor defense, childish shots and kiddish passes. This is the time for the "Big 3" to raise and show what true champions they are.. "a leader is one who does not bow when a struggle comes in, he boldly stands and leads his way thru"....

  1. Talk about some fairy fans. The C's are still one of the top teams in the NBA. They are still the defending champs. If anything, being knocked down a peg and allowing Cleveland or LA to get the national focus will allow them to fly under the radar. The #1 team in any sport never does well. Just ask the Lakers, Patriots, Yankees/Red Sox last year.

  1. Like Red Auerbach said after the 1986 championship, "you lose 2 in a row and people say, who are those bums? " - you can see that now.

  1. Guys you have to realize it l.. It's plain and simple... They are tired I mean it's obvious look at garnett, day in and day out he spills his heart out there but now it's takig a toll on him, hopefully this will pass. They are a talented team but they are in the NBA and they are also playing other talented teams who are after the Celtics.

  1. I agree that Doc needs to give Giddens and Walker a chance. They need to do
    something to improve the bench.
I can't remember a team starting the season on a winning streak and then losing so many games unless they had a serious injury.

  1. Should be 2.2 assists??? Giddens appeared in 13 games for the Flash averaging 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 rebounds, 1.46 steals, a team-high 1.54 blocks all in a team-high 37.6 minutes per game.

  1. Conspirator: Pretty much. "What have you done for me lately" taken to it's extreme.
This is my problem with the nouveau riche Celtics fans who couldn't pick Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes or even Antoine Walker out of a line-up. It's been awful 2 weeks, but it's JANUARY! (you know, the month when all the Cavs, Lakers and Blazers fans on these blog entries think the NBA Championship is decided)

Most of us who followed the team in the post Bird era saw worse. MUCH WORSE.

  1. You know what...Screw Lebron. I want to see the C's come into Cleveland and regain some respect. KG and Perk need to dominate the paint..NO JUMP SHOTS KG! I want to see Walker/Pierce on Lebron...make that fool travel and walk with the damn ball. Play the whole 48 minutes...and don't let UP! LETS GO BOSTON!!!!

  1. Pork is right. You Boston fans had over 20 years of crappy Celtic teams. Let's show a little appreciation here.
