Stephon Marbury is willing to give back $1 million of his $21.9 million salary this season if it gets him closer to a buyout from the Knicks, Marbury told the New York Post. Marbury is waiting to hear from the Knicks concerning his proposal, which is a change from a Dec. 1 meeting between the two sides when Marbury reportedly took the $1 million off the table.

Another new development in the story is that Marbury told the Post he has a firm offer from at least one team should the Knicks release him. The Celtics and Marbury have been reported by the Globe and other news outlets to have mutual interest in one another, though it is not clear which team Marbury is referring to when he says he has a firm offer.

As with all of the recent reports on Marbury, speculation on where the point guard may or may not end up hinge entirely on whether the Knicks, who hold the cards in this situation, decide to buy him out.
