Agent says Moore still undecided

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff February 23, 2009 06:25 PM

Center Mikki Moore's agent said early this evening that his client has yet to make a decision on which team he will play for after he clears waivers tomorrow morning.

Agent Mark Bartelstein said the Celtics were amongst as many as four teams that Moore was mulling over joining. Bartlestein also mentioned Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix as potential suitors. He also added that Boston was a strong contender and said his client will not have a firm decision until tomorrow after he clears waivers. A source close to the Celtics also said that the franchise will be awaiting a decision by Moore in the morning and have received no commitment.

"It's definitely something he's interested in," said Bartelstein of the Celtics. "But stuff happens (referring to Denver center Nene's knee injury). We'll wait until the morning to see where we are at."

While the Celtics are a strong contender for Moore's services, it's possible other teams might be able to outbid Boston financially.

  1. Whats the big deal with this guy, he is worse that the guy they just traded away. If Ainge thinks that this guy is the answer then we are in trouble

  1. He's a high energy guy who rebounds and blocks some shots...he's perfect as a backup C

  1. Brian, I am not sure on what basis you are stating that O'Bryant is better than Moore. O'Bryant is a lottery pick that has quickly fallen out of favor with two teams for his inability to learn offense, defense, or even hustle. Moore is a player who worked his way up from the CBA to become a 10-year NBA player. Moore has been on some bad teams, so his consistent mid-range shot and energy has gone unnoticed by many, including by you. He's started 154 games over the past 3 years and is a career 55% shooter. While not an answer to a long-term KG injury, Moore's consistent shot, length, and energy would provide sufficient depth to go along with Powe and Big Baby's below-the-rim play.

  1. Way off base Brian. Mikki Moore is a proven NBA veteran that can rebound, score a little and play some D. Miles and miles better than Patrick O'Bryant.

  1. True-all true. A big man with a nice mid/short range game nowadays is a keeper. I saw a little of Mikki's game over the years. Brian-go to YouTube and watch the Mikki Moore mix. You'll see what we are all talking about. How about that dunk by Leon just now..? YIKES!!

  1. I'd rather have mikki moore than patrick o'bryant who's just a spectator;)
Next is Stephan Marbury...and then we good to take on Lebron.

  1. I have never heard of him. If he can help, we'll take him. O'Bryant was a loser. Glad to see him go. It is amazing we got anything for him.

  1. Quite frankly, I think Joe Smith would have been a better acquisition, however it appears the Thunder aren't willing to give him up and Smith doesn't seem like he wants to move anyhow. From what I've seen of Moore, he appears to be high energy, a good rebounder and decent defender. Once he gets into the Celtic mix, he could be effective. With KG down, and Perkins' shoulder always a question mark and now with Scal going down, I think this was a smart move considering what is available. Now the question is will we pick up a backup point guard since House is a great shooter but not really a point guard? Is Marbury coming to town?
