Pierce plays with pain

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff February 26, 2009 01:54 AM

Los Angeles - Celtics All-Star forward Paul Pierce scored 20 points despite playing with a dislocated right thumb injury he suffered in the third quarter of a 93-91 loss to the Clippers on Wednesday night. Pierce said after the game that he doesn't expect a long-term problem with the thumb that was heavily wrapped afterward.
"It's just sore right now, throbbing. I dislocated it a couple times. X-rays negative. It should be all right..," Pierce said. "I don't know if it really affected me. It was definitely sore. It was manageable. It's never happened to me before."

  1. Why is nobody pointing out that Rondo was fouled on the final play? Still, a really bad loss considering that the C's were up 9 after the Powe alley-oop dunk with about 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter and managed to lose it to a bottom-five team.

  1. Wah, wah, wah...this game never should have been this close anyway. It was the doggone Clippers people.

  1. There we go... same old Celtics fans, whining after every loss.

  1. How about the fact that there was no possession on the timeout for the Clippers with 30 seconds left on Rondo's FT miss. Whining there too Van Exel? Go home.

  1. 1 word-turnovers. They mailed this one in. Last game of a lonnnng road trip. By the way, it sound like you're the one always whining Dick Van Exel. lol If you don't like it-screw. :0

  1. Wah wah wah...here you go again. You sound like Tommy Heinsohn at every game, whining about every call that doesn't go your way. Did it ever occur to you that the Celtics should have blown out the lowly Clippers way before the last play?
Stop whining already...figure it out...fouled on teh last play, 2 foul shots, you're still down by one.

  1. You Celtics fans just prove my point daily. The biggest whiners in the NBA. Which ref screwed you this time, kids?

  1. Celtic fans - no excuses here or Nick Van Exel will take you to task. I am shaking in my boots, Nicky................we LOST, and it is embarassing

Of course this is the same guy who is NOT whining cuz Bynun was hurt last year. Of course if Bynum was healthy, then Nicky the loser and his Lakers are looking at back to back championships......................wah wah wah, but WE are the whiners!!! Get a life, man - crawl back into the slime that begat you.

  1. NIck forgot Kobe and Phil - the two biggest whiners who are actually INVOLVED in the NBA - see, Nick, I don't know about you but fans are not IN the NBA, IMO. We just watch the games. Hopefully, it was the same refs you will NOT whine about if it ever happens to you - but, of course, you will take the high road - like saying the only reason WE won was because Bynum was hurt - OMG - grow up, get a life, get a job where they don't allow you to blog all day - because you are the biggest A-hole on this site

  1. Phil Jackson is a great coach, but c'mon...the guy sits in a HIGH-CHAIR! I know..I know..it's for his hip, but still..a frickin' high chair-now that's a baby. And he does whine quite a bit. Not as much as Kobe though. lol

  1. Wow - there are as many Laker trolls over here as there are Celtic trolls over on the Laker blog. Ying and Yang I guess. Balancing each other out.
Celtics are hurting. One of the big three is out. Pierce dislocates his thumb. Scalabrine is out. They're scrambling for some decent help. Everyone is worried and hoping for a good outcome even though you're not at full strength.
Last year it was the Lakers without two key players. It was posted far and wide how those two players would make absolutely no difference if they'd have played.
Maybe someone will be man (or woman) enough to admit that when your team is missing pieces it's a factor. Knowing C's fans I guess that's asking too much.

    And yet

  1. Funny how my point is continually made for me by whining Celts fans, only to have the newbie opk3 scramble to try and change the subject.

Oh, and opk3 - try hitting the "submit" button once. The instructions are right there for ya.

Posted by Nick Van Exel February 26, 09 03:06 PM
  1. Are you going to sit there and try to say that the finals would play out the same with Bynum there, opk3? No, of course they wouldn't. But its just a matter of whether you want to discuss it or not. You clearly don't want to think about it. So knock yourself out. But let's be clear - I'm not claiming any refs or NBA execs had a conspiracy to screw my team, like so many here. Just stating facts.

Posted by Nick Van Exel February 26, 09 03:11 PM
  1. Kobewears - I suppose that is a matter of opinion - in my opinon Phony Phil is NOT a good coach - he has never built a team, and he has never coached a team that did not have MJ, Kobe, or Shaq on it. He is not involved in the draft picks and it is Tex Winter's offense. His girlfriend got him his job, after he whined about being "fired" in the papers. We will never agree on that point, I'm afraid. But Kobe - oh yeah EVERY CALL is a whine. The man has never commited a foul in his life - just adultery.....

    Posted by opk3 February 26, 09 04:36 PM
  1. You seem very offended with Kobe's moral sensibilities, opk3. Are the other monks in your monastery equally upset?

Posted by Nick Van Exel February 26, 09 07:28 PM
  1. Nick - yes we still would have won, because if Bynum was healthy they do not trade for Gasol - who is more of a matchup problem than Bynum. See, the last thing I saw was a good old fashioned ass-kicking by the Celtics. I can't think about Bynum because he wasn't there. Even with Bynum and Gasol, can't think about it because he wasn't there.
That is about as stupid an analogy as - if Garnett didn't foul out in Boston, we would have won.....the fact is, I don't know and neither do you. If you are so good at prognosticating (do you know what that is?) then take your dog and pony, cheap insults, Lakers BS and move to Las Vegas. This is the REAL world, man, and you LOST - bye Nick have a good, if somewhat slanted and twisted life.

  1. Wahhhhhhhhh! lol Now if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. 1st we have LLL66 (licking Larry's loins?) complaining about C's fans on Lakers' blogs, which I personally think is weak too, yet he's here. Then, we have VanExel calling people whiners and excuse makers, and he uses the oldest, lamest and most stereotypical excuse for 131-92..the Bynum factor. LOL...Thanks guys-you made my day! By the way opk3, VanExel just wants attention. Just pay him no mind-trust me, he hates it. Matter of fact, he'll lash out pretty soon..watch....lol

    Posted by 19.7 PPG, 8.7 APG February 26, 09 09:21 PM
  1. Let's face it. Both recent road losses were not due so much to missing personnel but terrible foul shooting, too many turnovers and lack of attacking the rim. The Clippers are not known for defense along the back line and still they didn't attack the rim enough. I don't get it. Why jump shoot so often against a team like this? The Celtics are fighting for home court advantage for the playoffs and losses like this really hurt. What will it take to stop the careless offensive play and terrible foul shooting?

  1. A whiner calling other posters whiners. I love hypocrites...

Posted by Classless February 27, 09 03:17 AM
  1. opk3,
You are about as self-deluded as they come. As I've said, the Lakers were in talks to get Gasol weeks before Bynum got injured, so let's put that to rest. So your weak non-response of "why should I talk about he wouldn't even be there" is done with. If you don't want to look at the realities of your half a title, then have at it.

    19.7,
Do you even know what a "stereotype" is? Try looking up your word before handling an extra syllable next time. And "LOL"? Are you really laughing? Good Christ, things are pretty dry over there in Beantown.

    Classless,
I totally agree with you on opk3. Good call.

  1. Hey classless and Kobewears - Nick has got to got, so let's just talk to each other, ok? Obviously the mix of medications he is taking is not working. He is clearly mentally and socially challenged, as he blogs on this site and the LA Times ALL DAY LONG. Single, living in a tree-house in his mother's back yard, and on tons of prescription medications - I actually feel sorry for him

So, what do you say, guys? Let's enjoy today, and everyday until some TEAM knocks us out - then he, of course, will take the high road and offer NO excuses, right???HA HA LOL

  1. I didn't complain about your fans as much as state an observation, but you can take it however you like. LLL66 = longtimelakerlover/66 year of birth.
It would be a refreshing change if someone actually copped to the fact that Drew and Ariza out meant something. I'm not sure why you insist it didn't. There are a few Boston fans who post on our blog, and some of them are right now saying as much as they'd hate to admit it, Lakers would beat Boston in a 7 game. Last year I admitted that the better team won. Being reasonable isn't a crime, and some people actually like it. Broadens the mind, introduces new concepts. We still might have lost the 131 blow out, but might have also won a few of the others.

    Posted by LLL66 February 27, 09 02:13 PM
  1. LLL66 - can you then talk some sense into your buddy Nick, cuz he is in denial!!

Classless - I KNOW that comment was not meant for me, and I totally agree with you on NVE - he is a whiner complainig about whining.

Nick - YOU say????YOU say?? who gives a damn what you say - I heard it on the radio out here. And if you quote me, quote me directly - I said " I can't think about Bynum, he wasn't there." The point is - neither can you - you do not know how he would have affected the outcome, and I don't either - that is the whole point. It's like saying if Rice wasn't hurt in 1975 the Sox would have won the World Series. I don't know that and only a MORON would say such a thing because we don't know. I'll be sure to tell Sparky Anderson he needs to cut that 1975 World Series trophy in half and give it to the Red Sox - what an idiotic comments you make, and the ones you make on LA Times are no better - but at least there are other Laker fans there that whine WAY more than we do - and your stand-up act works just as well there, I read it last night.

  1. Don't want to interrupt your onanism here, isana$$, but I've never been on the LA Times blog. Great line about living with my mother - where do you come up with all these fresh takes?

Posted by Nick Van Exel February 27, 09 06:57 PM
  1. Forget your medication again, Nick - those are the ramblings of an inane nit-wit. Oh, I'm sorry...............let me slow it down for you........those wordies are very naughty and tell me you skipped nappy time....add somehting to the blog about hoop or get off - and there must be another Nick Van Exel on the LA Times because it was your EXACT words...............

    Posted by nickvanexelisana$$ February 27, 09 07:59 PM
  1. LLL66- one of your points is well-taken - and I will admit I am more worried this year than last - and I will extend congrats should the Lakers win. However, your other point, is moot. "Drew (are you on a first name basis with Mr. Bynam) and Ariza being hurt - well we don't really know, do we. Would the Sox have won the '75 World Series if Jim Rice was healthy? We don't know, but it makes for great banter - and as long as the banter stays civil, I would be happy to hear more of your comments - get persoanl and, well, ask your buddy Nick!!

    Posted by opk3 February 27, 09 08:05 PM
  1. LLL66, tread lightly with our special friend opk3. He has the emotional strength of a porcelain vase.

Hey isana$$ - Perhaps you could show me the "something about hoop" in your last 4 comments. I'm looking. Sorry to break it to you, newbie, but I'm not going anywhere - if you can't take it, find another blog to read or zip it. But then again, you just started posting, and if I know my Celtics fans you'll be gone within a week or two. Or as soon as the Celtics hit a dry patch again.

  1. Hey look - someone finally approved comments!

Posted by Nick Van Exel March 3, 09 04:31 PM
  1. Nick
    Submit button once please
How sad to think you can resoond to people 5 days later and not have them check
Glad to see you admitted we had the better team - that must have killed you,
And living out here I can say without hesitation that NO ONE thought the Celtics would beat the Lakers with or without Bynum. It was a done deal - a forgeone conclusion - my LA friends even used the word "sweep". So, Bynum being injured was not relevant to me - but the ass-kicking was sweet

    Posted by opk3 March 3, 09 05:12 PM
  1. opk3, exactly when did I say you had a better team? Please enlighten us.

Posted by Nick Van Exel March 3, 09 07:33 PM
  1. re: duplicate posts... you Celtic fans don't have to deal with this, but occasionally Laker fans' posts are deleted when the moderators feel you need to be shielded from the hurtful words. So throwing 2 passes is never a bad idea.

Posted by Nick Van Exel March 3, 09 07:36 PM
  1. So - once again, it's okay for YOU to double post, but you make a big deal out of it and insult Celtic fans when they do it????
Just so I'm clear on the rules, hypocrite!

    Posted by opk3 March 4, 09 10:57 AM
  1. The difference is that Celtic fans do it because they have a hard time hitting the submit button with their forehead.

Posted by Nick Van Exel March 4, 09 03:08 PM
  1. NVE - your blogs are now about as stale as day-old doughnuts - the better team won because the better team always wins - and if the Lakers are truly better this year, they will win - but you cannot annoit yourselves champions until the games are played - you need to get by Utah and San Antonio (I know, you are not worried). Once again, your arrogance is the problem - not your hurtful words, bring it on - OR, like I've said before, just leave me alone and scroll past me

    Posted by opk3 March 4, 09 03:26 PM
  1. "Leave me alone"? Really? Seriously - how much were you teased as a child? Its starting to sound like it might be time for you to return to lurking on this blog.

    BTW, I don't have a blog.

Posted by Nick Van Exel March 4, 09 07:06 PM
  1. I plan to return to lurking
As soon as the Celtics lose in the playoffs
That would be when someone can beat this team 4 times
and I don't care who is on the other team, I don't care about the refs, I don't care, most of all, about you - I just want my team to win the title
I believe we already covered the picked on thing - but you never let anything go, do you?
And, just for the record, it is a universally accepted fact that the WORST fans in the world were in Chicago during MJ's heyday - and who was the coach of that team/? Oh, yeah the Zen whiner

    Posted by opk3 March 5, 09 09:03 PM
  1. If you could give us all a heads up on your emotional state while typing your comments that would really be appreciated. Something like "DEPRESSED" or "WEEPY" stamped at the beginning of your posts would really make them far more entertaining for the rest of us.
