Pruitt arrested, reportedly on suspicion of DUI
Backup Celtics guard Gabe Pruitt was arrested early this morning in the Los Angeles area on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, celebrity gossip web site TMZ.com reported. A search of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department web site found that someone with Pruitt's exact name and birthday was arrested at 3:07 a.m. and booked at 5:57 a.m. Bail was set at $5,000.
The LACSD web site did not indicate the exact charge, only that it was a misdemeanor.
The Celtics played the Clippers in Los Angeles last night. The 22-year-old Pruitt, who played college ball at the Southern Cal, scored three points in Boston's 93-91 loss.

Kick this thug off the team. Not only did he risk his own life but he put 100s of other drivers in danager by driving drunk. Lock him up and throw away the key, Marbury will be a nice upgrade over him.
Wonderful. Now all we need is to get Stephon "Cancer" Marbury on this team. That'll help people clean up their acts.
Celebrating the loss or drowning in the fact that he will have no more playing time with Marbury set to join the mixer?
He must be stupid.
The thought of having Marbury as a teammate has already driven him to drink (pun intended).
To Wade:
You say to kick this "thug" off the team and the proceed to say Marbury will be a nice upgrade over him. Yes, I agree he will be a nice upgrade on the court....but you're worried about Pruitt's life off the court, have a look at Marbury's life off the court. Think before you speak (or type), you moron.
BallerBabe,
That comment is not a pun.
Yes, the only answer is he must be stupid. A fantastic opportunity was ahead of him, now the Celts will need to dump him. STUPID
What was he doing out celebrating? They lost to the Clippers! Or perhaps he was trying to forget it all happened. I know I would if lost to one of the NBA's worst teams.
Great.
After watching the Celts lose to the Paper Clips, I guess you can't blame him for drinking hard liquor.
How about a 22 year old hanging out with his college buddies??? Stupidity of youth...
Gotta love the immediate over reactions without any knowledge other than he was arrested on SUSPICION of driving under the influence, calm down people.
From DUI to D-League.
Doc should've had a red eye charter waiting at LAX after that stinker of a game.
throw away the key?...are u kidding me.......HE IS A KID.....22, discipline him and let the courts do what they will, , just because he plays basketball, he is still only 22, a late night and a couple to many, we have all done it at college age...ive been a cop for 24 years.......i believe in tough policies for not just athletes but also for everyone........but an OUI is just that....he isnt selling drugs, he had a couple of beers.....and the kid from all i can see is developing into someone that could help us.....and if im not mistaken, I havent seen any other transgressions...WADE....get in touch with reality.........typical......passing judgement from your condescending perc
Marbury is an upgrade over nobody. Obviously Wade is holier than everyone else and knows nothing about basketball. He should be disciplined for what he did but give me a break, all of a sudden he's a thug?!?! Wade is a bigot.
Ah, wasn't he supposed to be on the plane back to Boston with the rest of his teammates after Wednesday's game?
Relax there is a reason he was booked to a misdemeanor it's because they couldn't prove he was drinking and driving. Give the kid a break
He's 22 & a ball player for Boston playing in LA of course they are going to arrest him... I bet he wasn;t even over the legal limit, it was probably on suspicion... And for all you idiots who says he is no good, listen to Tommy.... He is one of the most improved Celts & it's too bad that he'll never see the court again when Marbury gets here to the Bean
Don't the Celtics have a team bus?
Innocent til proven guilty. Cops love to stop blacks driving expensive cars.
If he admits to it or is found guilty, then Celtics must fine and suspend him. Impt to send the right message to young fans. And Doc needs to send message to players, since some didn't appear ready to play hard last night.
The Globe should just can the "comments" section, all it gets are useless remarks like the ones above, this is dialogue?
Wow he is really committed to making himself a better player and teammate. Way to go kid, first year in the NBA and you are really showing people what your made of.
Oh, just calm down.
guy made a mistake, hope he learns, move on.
Apparently you MA-natives are harder on your sports icons than your politicians...Pruit drives drunk, gets stopped and hurts nobody, and you scream "Get rid of da bum!!". Kennedy drives drunk, kills a woman, and you guys elect him to office for the next 30 years.
Some class acts on this Celtics team.
We wouldn't kick Pierce or Garnett off the team if they were busted for DUI.
He's caught up in Drunk Driving, Now get caught up in life
He will be on the next flight back to Utah. Oh Gabe, we hardly knew ye...
He's caught up in Drunk Driving, Now get caught up in life
If I lost to the lowly Clippers I'd get drunk as well! Go Cavs!
He's caught up in Drunk Driving, Now get caught up in life
Because going out for drinks with friends after a disappointing loss means he is a thug. Guity until proven innocent. You are all a bunch of idiots for tearing him down so quickly without knowing anything other then what is in this blog.
young guy did dumb thing; he will straighten out and he is a talent
to Wade....
Hey idiot,....Pruitt isn't the thug...Marbury's the thug. Marbury doesn't have half the heart, potential and "game" that Pruitt does. I can't even believe they pay Marbury to play ball.
Pun stupid.
He won't see the court again this year.
stupid move but you guys are way over reacting. he is a human too and humans make mistakes. he had the bad judgment to get behind the wheel and now has to deal with it. i hope he learns from this and becomes a better person.
I'd be drinking too if we got beat by the Clippers! Keep up the good work! Enjoy the #2 seed!
Way to overreact Wade. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? What if the cops were Lakers fans? Let the guy explain himself before you go nuts.
i have a feeling that if it was Scal who caught a DUI, you wouldn't be calling him a "thug"...he messed up obviously, but until you get all the details and see what he does in response to his screw up (apology, community work, etc) hold on to all the judgment of his character...
he shouldn't have even made the team before this. the guy is not nba skills.
Off topic but how smart where the Celtics not to sign James Posey. Dumping contracts as they have in the past they could have dumped Posey's fifth year if it was so detrimental to the team eat the last two or so years he was worth it. Signing him was as essential in their quest to win multiple championships which now seems very much in doubt. Gigantic mistakes like this cannot be fixed. I hope I am wrong.
Sluggo
People act like they have never been behind the wheel after a few pops. BS, grow up, the kid made a mistake...
he was just partying with his old college buddies and made a dumb mistake. don't even know how high he was over the limit so everyone mellow out...
Some non-class acts on this blog
The Rob-excellent point. If he did in fact drive drunk, stupid mistake. Give the kid a chance to explain himself. Or at least time to let his publicist think of a good lie. lol..C'mon Gabe! You're better than that (if it's true). Too many damn turnovers last night, plain and simple.
Let he who has never made a mistake cast the first stone!
Arthur Chobanian,
I agree with you about James Posey. He was a big part of our win last year, and
it was a big mistake not to resign him.
I agree that he should be punished, but kick him off the team? Keep dreaming. And as for the Cavs fan, let's see your boys beat my Celtics and then you can talk trash.
Wow, I guess a lot of you have never made a mistake in your life? He deserves to be punished in accordance to the law and to nba and celtics rules. When you mix youth, money, fame, and immaturity these things happen unforunately. Fortunately, no one was injured. In America, everyone gets a second chance! He's a Celtic too, remember!
Perfect excuse to release him and bring in Marbury so he can completely help implode this team. Way to go Celts. In another 2 years when people realize there won't be more championships for at least 25 more years, they'll be back to giving away tickets to the games while all the bandwagon fans go back to watching hockey.
LOL @nickvanexelisana$$....
You make it so easy, KobeWears...
Jeffrey Clark,
Some Celtics fan you are. This is Gabe's first year in the NBA, huh? Glad to see you only started watching after they won the title last year. Get your facts straight, clown.
Kobewears - thank you - you are the man
Gabe drinks all the time and goes clubbing every chance he gets. He is always at the clubs in Boston and Providence EVERY weekend he is in town. He always drinks and drive, this time he just got caught! Nice kid but needs to calm down the party lifestyle he is living.
I try! I'd hate to starve you of the attention-we all know how bad you crave it. That's cool though, we just kind of look at you like a lost fan, orphaned by the Lakers' fans. That's the only thing that would explain you being here so much. That and your dire need for any type of attention or acknowledgment at all...We still love ya though Dic...I mean Nick the Not So Quick....lol
Now the refs AND the cops are out to get us!
NY Times is reporting that Starbury will be in uniform tomorrow night vs Indiana...
KobeWears - Ha! You said "dic" instead of "Nick"! That is great stuff. You must slay them at the school cafeteria.
Kobewears - do you think we finally got rid of him?
My god people!!
If we looked into your past would we find everything was squeaky clean? You all never made stupid mistakes as a kid? Never got into a car after having a few drinks? Pruitt is a kid, I do not condone what he did, but hopefully he will learn something from it. He is fortunate that he made this mistake with no one getting hurt. It does not make him a "Thug" as one so ignorantly put it. You should be ashamed of yourself for jumping to such a conclusion. He will have to pay the price for his actions, but he should not continue to be vilified for it.
Bunch of idiots on this blog. Guy is FROM LA - is 23 y ears old - and made a bad decision. Like none of you donkeys has ever driven after a few drinks. He is a great kid and has been a model member of the Celtics and the community before this. Cut the kid some slack.
stop pretending that you've never had a couple beers and driven home
Hey NICK - you need a job where you can't blog all day long - get a life, man
I agree with Pat M. You don't even know the story yet!!! If you read the article (and not just the headline), you know NOTHING about what happened, or even what he was arrested for and you're ready to kick him off the team. IF you knew anything about him, he's a good kid. Maybe after hearing the full facts, I could judge differently, but based on what you see above you are COMPLETELY over reacting only to hear yourselves talk.
Thanks so much...I try.
It's too early to start drowning your sorrows Gabe ...
June is still months away!!!!!!!!!!!!
hog
Van Exel - I'm sure you're familiar with throwing stones in glass houses. Talking about class? I'll reiterate, ad nauseam, your team includes an accused rapist, a coach who kills his players in a money making book, a player (Odom) who has been busted multiple times violating the NBA drug policy. I'm waiting for your witty retort.
Classless, you think smoking weed means Odom lacks class? You are on the wrong blog then, kid.
Classless - he won't respond because he doesn't have any stones - he goes on this site - and the LA Times blogs and whines about US whining. He is the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen - and I've seen some big ones.....just for the record, Kobe is OJ - never convicted - just guilty as hell - which doesn't make him a rapist, "JUST" an adulterer
good comment, man
To the newbie isana$$,
Your friends are damn lucky to have a moral compass like yourself around when they go out on the town. Must be a great time for them. When you are done with the Catholic bit, maybe you can throw out a take or two on basketball.
BTW, I've never been on the LA Times blogs. But keep trying!
Funny cuz there was a Nick Van Exel comment last night that was EXACTLY the same as yours yesterday.....dots and all. Same spelling, same moronic commen about "typical Celtic fans..." blah blah blah". so, you are not just a jerk, but a liar too...........which means I can be your moral compass, since you don't have one. Give up the lies, Nick and go back into your hole - come back in June. I have read your comments, sir, and it is impossible to "throw out a take or two on basketball" because YOU cannot take the fact that your team did not win last year...until you can do that - go back to the LA Tijmes - LIAR
My team did not win last year. That make you feel good? I never claimed they did win - I have stated that the Lakers were not at full strength when they lost. And the player that was out was not a role player, but possibly the (at the time) third most valuable player on the team. Valid? Of course it is. Would that player have altered the series? Of course he would. Would the Celtics fans have whined had one of their top three players been injured and missed the series? There is no effing doubt they would.
And regardless of your tantrum, I have not been on the LA Times blog. Sorry to disappoint.
Now you may return to your bible study.
It's to bad the "new " Celt's have sold their souls. Character is no longer an issue for them. I guess they will put any thug, gang member, on their team to win.
Never been to LA Times blog. But never give up the fight, Sparky.
Glad you admitted it
5 days later, when no one can check the blog - wrong
a$$, what are you talking about? You sure are burning some calories doing whatever the hell you are doing...
