With the trade deadline less than four hours away, logic says we should probably file this one under wishful thinking, but according to ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan, versatile Oklahoma City forward Joe Smith is hoping he ends up here with Celtics after the deadline passes.
A source who has been in the know for years tells me that . . . Smith is keeping his fingers crossed that the Thunder do not find another trade for him now that he's back in Oklahoma City.
Smith, the source said, would like to do a buyout and then sign with the Boston Celtics as this season's version of P.J. Brown.
Smith was traded by the Thunder to the New Orleans Hornets earlier this week, but the deal was voided yesterday when Tyson Chandler failed his physical with Oklahoma City.
Smith, a 13-year veteran and a good friend and former teammate of Kevin Garnett, would be a good fit with a number of playoff-bound teams, so it's at least intriguing that the Celtics are atop his wish list.
